Summer school in Hangö?

Post by nwilson » Tue Feb 17, 2009 4:17 pm

Hi there!

I am studying in Helsinki and was thinking about attending Summer School.... I know that they run quite a few courses in English in Helsinki, but I would like to know if anyone knows of any English courses in Hanko?

My boyfreind tells me that he thinks there is a Summer school there but has no idea where to find information.... I have searched the net but have yet found anything.....

Do you mean courses in the English language (as in "language learning") or summer schools / studies that could be completed/attended in English?

For example, I know there's this Zoological station in Hanko, for example, there are summer courses there...

...but perhaps this isn't what you're after?

Och förstås finns det också Hangö Sommaruni - http://www.hangosommaruni.fi/ ... but Hanko/Hangö is a smallish place, not exactly brimming over with courses arranged in foreign languages like English, could be difficult to find.

Hanko thrives during summer and you will not be able to find accomodation in Summer and people will be begging for you to move in during winter..
cos thats how the town is..
and it ll be very expensive to go via bus/train everyday from HEL to Hko..

There a great beach, a couple of decent restaurants on the marina, and Mannerheim's café which has nice cakes and a fab view over the Baltic. The town itself it pretty to look at (Jugend style wooden villas etc) but otherwise it's a dive, there is nothing there. Even in summer. I go there for the Itämeri Cup (football) every July/August and I get seriously bored. And that is peak summer season. It is a long drive down from the "mainland".

To be quite honest Hanko is the last place I would rent a summer cottage. But that's up to individual taste I suppose. It is supposed to be the sunniest place in Finland and it certainly has a great beach. But there is nothing much to do there unless you have a sailing boat and are part of the set who sails along the coast each summer eating and drinking in all the marinas and playing the occasional round of golf (there is a golf course in Hanko). Not my idea of a holiday but, as you say, it can be quite lively in the summer. I think it is on the bikers trail too, there are always plenty of bikes there and IIRC there is a casino. :|
