As Finnair told me over the phone when I came to Finland looking for a job...

"Call us back when we can have this conversation in Finnish"...

So the normal reaction when you are applying here

It would be nice if they send all the Finns back who do not speak perfectly the language of the country they are living in

Hi Rick1 I have applied for a job with Finnair but not recruiting currently with the downturn of the global economy. I am sure there must be lot more small operators flying and based in Finland doing charter works and also corporate jets operator flying around.

SteveS are you a pilot. Can you also tell me if you working in Finland with aviation industry.

As I understand Finland economy is lot better then the rest of the world and are still expanding in different trades and manufacturing. I am sure they need skill workers to boost their economy as they are having shortage of own skill workers.

What are the salary, terms and conditions like working in Finalnd.

I am here to make a positive contribution to the Finnish Economy don't want to waste anytime acheiving nothing.

Cheers :)

Basically the finnish pilots cost too much, so these days its more or less taken up by foreign operators. Theres your open jobs in aviation atm. Looks great... so theres the Scandics and Baltics to look at as well... doesn't look that great either...

Sorry, only a humble (ex) Avionic Engineer..

Had to give it up when I came to Finland, I tried every airline, but the closest I got was an interview with Air Botnia but in the end the job went to a Finn.

Patria were very interested, as my previous work was very similar to what they did, but they couldn't hire me as I wasn't a Finnish citizen (security requirement)

Finally ended up in a new industry where my English was desired and swapped a chilly apron for a nice warm office!

The only corporate jets in Finland are there by mistake.

The first ones that come to mind are:

Finnair
Blue1
Finncom
Jetflite
Wingo (although the company flying the routes is not called this but something else)

I work in the industry, so if I can give you any more info or help, just send me a message.

To the OP, I don't work in your industry but I use it occasionally.

I understood one of the regional airlines here had trouble finding enough pilots a couple of years ago. Or perhaps, finding enough pilots to work for the wage they were offering.

At one point there was an AerArran plane flying some domestic routes in Finland
http://www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-325718.html I don't know whether that was a shortage of planes / pilots or both.

With the global economic downturn, flying is surely one of the things which people cut back on first. I noticed Ryanair has decreased the number of flights from Stansted - Tampere, seems they don't even fly daily now. Surely not the best time to be looking for a job.

And on a related topic, are you are aware of the recent Finnair pilot's pay disputes?

Ryanair's planning to charge for using the bog. Now it'll really become a tightarses' airline.

I'm not planning on moving to Finland any time soon, but as a currently practicing avionics engineer (with practically zero ability to communicate in Finnish) I'd be curious to hear what you ended up doing, especially with that last bit about your English being a prized skill.
