I had not heard about this 'Findian' website, but searched for it on google and found it. If it is this website with complete lack of aesthetics, then maybe I found it. OK, I could not read anything there because it looks like some cheap porno site. Anyway, coming to the point, I generally avoid people who crib.
Recently I had a friend who came to visit me from London. When she was here, she kept cribbing how much boring Helsinki is compared to London. When she is in London, she keeps cribbing how dirty London is compared to Helsinki. When she is in....well, you get the hang of it.
Rainman, I seem to have evoked some raw emotions. Sorry about that. I could understand how you feel the way things have gone for you. You raise the point that you feel you have been exploited and how westerners would someday blame you for taking over their jobs. But how is your attitude any different? Your tone makes it seem that all your misery comes from the attitude of the Westerners towards us. Maybe it is time for some introspection.
Surprisingly, I as an Indian have never faced any of the situations you have mentioned. Nobody comes and asks me to change my religion. (and I don't go around preaching to Finns how much better my religion is compared to Christianity) (I don't even think my religion is any better/worse than christianity).
Not availing of any KELA benefits is not a reason to crib! Atleast you are eligible - so if you need help, they would help you, right? Would you rather sit jobless and live on the unemployment benefits? I guess not.
No old/ugly ladies have tried to "exploit" me. Actually, even young/beautiful Finnish girls don't exploit me, or come so close to me. Must be my looks/accent
OK, I don't mind...can't change their free will. I do have some good Finnish friends though, and religion/race has rarely been a point of our discussions.I have sometimes felt that Finnish girls are not too adventurous when it comes to trying out a completely different culture. Once a Finnish girl asked me (rather seriously) that if she was my girlfriend, would I have beaten her at home every evening, and made her do all the dishes? Ah well...what do you term it as? Racism, insult, or sheer ignorance? I put her in the "ignorant" category (even though she was studying to be an engineer in Finland's best university) and we both went our own way.
You really sound angry at the West. Even I like the nature here very much, but you seem to be giving up your happiness in return for beautiful nature. Is it really worth it then?
Or well, maybe you have lived here long enough to see the reality. In my less than 2 year of existence in Finland, everything does seem great to me. Who knows what I would say in some years! Anyways I hope that things stay the way they are for me.
I don't think there is any point debating over racism or religion. By their inherent nature, these debates are endless.
