Implications of using tax-free shopping within Finland ?

Post by TaMas » Sat Mar 07, 2009 8:09 pm

Hi All,

Not sure whether this is the right place to post this query, but anyways I will see :)

I wonder if anyone could tell me of the implications to use a tax-free item in Finland, bought from Finland besides losing the refund?

I, perhaps, unwittingly bought some jewelery for a friend who is coming over from Russia and have it gift-wrapped. Since I won't be the one who will take it out ofFinland, I want to remove the seal they place on such packaging before presenting it to her. I understand that I will lose the tax refund for this, but is there any other flip-side or legal complexity to this? Any aftermath?

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Ter,

T M

I can't imagine any regulation that you'd breaking. You paid the full tax at purchase time like anybody else.

Well, you can save the state some money by calling the store where you bought it and tell them that you are not going to claim the "tax free" part.
