Where to buy HIFI equipment
Where to buy HIFI equipment
I'd like to find some shops in Helsinki area (or netshops even) that have some decent HIFI equipment.
I can mostly only find home theatre type stuff from the usual suspects (musta porssi, expert, etc).
Any suggestions? I'm not deeply into this stuff but I read, for example, Marantz is excellent for the price,
but I have never even seen this brand in Finland.

Re: Where to buy HIFI equipment
Hmm... there's one rather high-end shop (can't recall it's name) at Frederikinkatu - IIRC close to Iso-Roobertinkatu crossing... but as far as I know that's really high-end (24-carat gold plated gloves for handling your records, styluses made of Chinese dragon's teeth, loudspeaker units designed by Picasso and carved out of a single block of Carrara marble... so they're pricey)
Just recently I went hunting for some AKG hifi headphones and got them from Kruunuradio http://www.kruunuradio.fi ; not that their headphone selection was so big but they happened to have what I was after - however I couldn't help noticing the big stacks of hifi equipment lying about (turntables 'n all)- that's in Kruunuhaka, Liisankatu) - I also popped in at Hifi Studio 17 (Eerkinkatu) - http://www.hifistudio17.fi/... apparently they stock Marantz

So, I've spotted those, but it's likely there are others. Expert, Musta Pörssi etc mostly have the home theatre kind of stuff...

Great replies folks, thanks!
I remember drooling at the hifistudio17 in Oulu, I might drop in there one day.
Will check the other links too and see what might suit.

Re: Where to buy HIFI equipment
what sort of marantz stuff are you looking for?
Re: Where to buy HIFI equipment
I tried to order a rotel power amp a couple of years ago and the stores in hki were pitiful. one completely lost the order, the second had to be almost forced to order it and take my money. none had it in stock of course. Finns don't put their money into high end audio gear so there is not much competition here.
you're better off flying to the UK and buying the stuff there. you easily save the price of the plane ticket.
last time there I picked up:
sony BDP-S350: 170e. at least 240e here.
denon AVR 2809: 680e. 1100e in finland.
panasonic DMR-EX768: 200e. not sold in finland. DMR-EX87 is similar for 400e.

Re: Where to buy HIFI equipment
yeah...i agree prices for these things are kinda ridiculous in finland. then again, at least one can go and have a look and audition these things before purchasing them.
by the way...S350 is USD160 in US, how's that? heh
