Food processors-- which one?

Post by jas_rho » Fri Jan 30, 2009 2:17 pm

Hey, our AEG (ie Electrolux) food processor - blender died on us a few weeks ago and I have decided I will spend the extra money to get a good quality one that will last. By reputation I know that KitchenAid and Kenwood are good, but what about Philips? I am looking for mainly a food processor but did use the blender quite often as well and liked the fact that they were both together and didn't take up as much space as two separate ones. Anyway, I don't think KitchenAid has a food processor with a blender to attach to it so I am down to Kenwood and Philips. The Philips is about 100€ cheaper though.

So I thought I would ask if any of you guys have experience or knowledge about these? I am sure there are at least some opinions here! :D

Anyway here are the two models I am thinking about, but I am open to other suggestions.

Philips HR7775 (199€ from Markantalo)

Kenwood FP950 (about 300€ from netanttila with discount because my wife works for Kesko, didn't find anywhere cheaper)

I recently aquired a Kenwood, but a much cheaper model than you are looking at. My mother has a similar one that she has used almost daily for years, and her positive experience is why I have a Kenwood. I don't know anything the other makes.

How long did your old one last? I can imagine that my cheap model would be easier to damage if I dropped bits of it, but that aside I don't know if a more expensive one would last significantly longer.

It's kinda hard for me to say how long it lasted since I didn't use it so much when we first got it. It lasted about 2 years but it was in more use during this last year. Something inside between the motor and the blade broke while just trying to grate some cheese so that's pretty crappy if you ask me. It had a 700 watt motor and these have 1000 watts if I remember right so these are more powerful and also they aren't all plastic like my last one was.

Am in the same situation.

I have had some bad experiences with Kenwood after-sales service in Finland. I was told (by the importer???) that Kenwood UK only ships spare parts to FInland once every six weeks so if your machine (mine was a steam iron) breaks down just after they have taken a delivery, then you might have to wait circa 2 months for a repair. I managed to get a brand new iron out of them, but I have been reluctant to get anything else Kenwood for that reason (might have improved more recently though). The other :| is that Kenwood stuff is sooooooo much cheaper in the UK, espcially at the moment with the £ so slow. Breaks my heart to pay 50% more here.

I was looking at Bamix in Stockmann (they had a few things on offer in their sale) - looks pretty solid stuff and I may well be tempted to fork out the extra.

Magimix is also worth a try: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magimix-5200XL- ... 265&sr=8-4

...but I don't know who stocks them in Finland,

and Dualit (which I have seen in several places including Stockmann)

Currently I have this one: http://uk.shopping.com/xPO-Kenwood-Kenw ... ssor-70RRP

I bought it in 2000 and it got damaged in our move to Finland. The handle of the plastic bowl is broken (crappy design) and the liquidizer doesn't fit on the base any more. I can get both bits to work if I fiddle around. The machine is not robust enough for regular use. The shredding and grating never gave decent results and the dough hook broke the first time I used it.

I think Kenwood is fine if you get the top of the range semi-pro stuff. But I think the cheaper models are not so good.

The new hand-held processors are REALLY useful for smaller quantities and everyday use. All the big brands have them now, but Bamix and Kmix (Kenwood) looked and felt the best. http://www.m2cshop.com/store/Kenwood-HB ... p-324.html

BTW The FP950 is only £170 from amazon and £160 from http://www.m2cshop.com/store/Kenwood-FP ... p-340.html (apparently they charge £30 to ship the thing to Finland, but I have never used that website before, it just came up when I googled)

If someone is wanting one for cheap, I have a machine bought when I moved in and the missus left and I've used it maybe 2-3 times actively and then its been sitting in the box as its a pain to get in and out. If someone really *is* interested I might be arsed to go see what the brand and exact make is. Its the kind with two bowls and somesuch whizzers and buzzers... I have a Braun handheld one I can do most anything I need and a chopping block and big knives.

I thought I had a phillips, but now that I look it's a Braun. Manual says "multisystem 3 in 1."

I've had it about 3.5 years and am happy, but mostly use the the blender several times a week. My only complaint (blender) is the number of seperate parts to take apart for the cleaning, for just a blender I agree with others that a high power hand blender is better.

When I have used it food processor seems as nice as the cuisinart I had in the US (but can't comment on the shredding feature, forgot where I put the disks), but the features like my kitchen aid (dough hook, etc.) have not been tried yet, so can't say. I really loved that kitchen aid. Biggest selling point on this model is the all in one feature, much better in small kitchens.

Hi, I´m also planning to buy a food processor and I´ve also considered the KitchenAid and Philips HR7775, but I hadn´t seen the Kenwood...
I think that by this time, you have already bought it. Could you please tell me which one you bought and your experience with it?

Your advice will be very helpful :D

Thanks a lot !

Hey, actually I ended up having to spend my extra money on other things and still haven't bought the food processor yet. But I ruled out the Philips. I am leaning towards the kenwood. The kitchenaid seems really good and solid and I like it as well but the Kenwood has also a blender that comes with it. If I got the kitchenaid I'd have to buy a separate blender. Oh, and the kenwood that I want comes with a built in scale so I can weigh the ingredients as they go in. The annoying thing is how cheap Kenwood sells for in the UK, I have however been told that if I ordered from there I could change the plug so that it worked here and the warranty would still be valid. Of course if anything did break it would be a pain to get it taken care of. Sorry I couldn't help you any more than that. Let me know what you decide and how you like it!

I have almost the same Kenwood you are looking at, and I like it a lot. I've had it about 6 months. I mainly use the processor, blender and spice grinder.
Don't worry, it only feels kinky the first time....
