Looking for English speaking summer program

Post by zinzin » Sat Mar 21, 2009 12:05 pm

I am looking for a place to send my 7-year old niece during day time in summer(Jul-Aug). Does anybody know any day-time program mainly for English-speaking children in Helsinki? I've found some day camps(päiväleirit) at lastenliito.fi website, but all of them are for Finnish speaking kids. She can speak English but no Finnish at all, so I'm afraid if she will be alienated by Finnish kids.

I am wondering if there's any special summer program for those kids attending international primary schools. I'd really appreciate it if somebody can share the information with me.
I am also interested in any English speaking playgroup for 7-year-old's, even without special programs.

yes well thats holiday season so most everything closes down for the obvious reasons... theres a couple international summer camps, but I'm not sure if they're for a bit older kids.

There are plenty of summer camps in June but after midsummer most families are on holiday and they take their kids with them. Then school starts up again in August.

Mine have been to camps in http://www.solvalla.fi (their summer programme doesn't seem to be posted yet) and also http://www.vierumaki.fi and http://www.kisakeskus.fi Most of the camps they offer are for one week at a time, or sometimes just a few days. I vaguely remember an American summer camp in Finland being posted on here a few years back, but it was mega- expensive.

I don't think the international schools bother with summer camps because the few international kids they have usually go home for the summer. You could try the English speaking playgroups, they might have something, at least in June.
