Starting from where?

There are no budget airlines flying direct from Finland to the US.

http://www.airninja.com/ will allow you to check what routes are available. Possible routes might be

via Berlin with Airberlin
via Dublin with Ryanair then AerLingus
via Gatwick with Easyjet then Virgin Atlantic

I'd guess all work out significantly cheaper than Finnair or SAS, but you will probably have long layovers and will not be able to through ticket ... so will have to check your baggage in a second time at the second airport.

http://www.kayak.com is nice in that it's basically a meta-search of a bunch of other flight pricing engines. I've used it to good effect in the past, you might check it's results out. Don't forget to play with the days a bit, you might be surprised at the differences in cost if you leave a day or two earlier or later than you originally planned.
