dressmakers, tailors, alterations?
Hello,
I'm hoping somebody can please tell me where I can get simple clothes repair/alteration jobs done. I can't even sew on a button so I need somebody to take up some trousers, etc.
Can anybody suggest a place in Helsinki? I'm going to take a look on the 7th floor of Stockmann today but if anyone has any other ideas, please yell!
Thanks.

You buy 'seutulippu'. You take metro to railway station. Then M-train to Myyrmäki, the 'Myyrmanni' (yeah, the one that was bombed) mall. The lady is on the 2.nd floor... above Hesburger where the corridor leads to a lamp shop and some others. Peter can check the name & times when he fiddles about. I'd bet there is something similar around Itäkeskus, but don't know for sure.
Cheers, Hank W.

I seem to recall that she does not like being open late especialy on Saturdays..I think she shuts up shop about 17.00 most days and at 14.00 on Saturdays..but does vary the times by sticking a card in her window ..Hank W. wrote:. Peter can check the name & times when he fiddles about.

I will go look tonight...

Just for your info: A "seutulippu" from Kulosaari to Myyrmanni will cost you €3 one way and if you add to this the time you need to travel (may be just this day she decided to close earlier) and the money to pay her.....why don't you just go to Stockman and buy new clothes. They stil have the 64% ALE.Hank W. wrote:You buy 'seutulippu'. You take metro to railway station. Then M-train to Myyrmäki, the 'Myyrmanni' (yeah, the one that was bombed) mall. Buy new clothes! What a great idea!
However, my problem is that I'm a bit titchy and need all clothes taken up / in so it wouldn't solve the problem. It's the 64% ale that's got me in this situation! Not to mention the everything-must-go Zara sales. Do the Zara trousers actually fit anybody on this planet?!
I don't get any free papers due to my door sign refusing all junk mail. Perhaps I should take it down for a while... Or there's always the yellow pages. If all else fails I'll just send the clothes to my mum
Thank you to everybody for the advice, I'm really taken aback by how helpful people are here. Is it something in the water that hasn't affected me yet?!
I might just have to take a suitcase full of things to the lady at Myyrmanni, make the trip worthwhile.

well for trousers you can buy this 'tape' stuff. Basically you turn the trousers inside out, fold them up to the right length and you iron this tape between the two layers of clothes and it 'sticks' together! Quick, easy and cheap way to take up trousers!
I just checked and Ive cut the label of mystuff so ant give you the Finnish name at the moment but it only cost €2.50 and Ive done 3 pairs of trousers and have some left over.

If you go to Halonen, they have a wide range of sizes there. Of course they try to sell you the expensive stuff, but their 'sales rack' sometimes has finds. I got 2 suits for 80 euros perfect for work occasions (marked down from some 200-300 their usual range is) and I got 'my size' even I am usually "not the same size" depending totally on the manufacturer. (I hate buying shirts)Handsome wrote: I'm obviously a smaller build than most Finnish blokes, so I buy/order most of my clothes from the UK.
