Generally the longer ferry journeys are more expensive that the alternative drive. You certainly save a lot of time doing Helsinki->Stockholm overnight and there are overnight ferries to the UK from The Netherlands or Belgium.

Yep, we are doing precisely that in late Spring. Stockholm by ferry, then drive to Calais, then ferry to Dover, then drive. Two of us driving so we are not planning on staying overnight on the way down but we are stopping in Paris on the way back (a detour rather than a stopover) and might do a shopping stopover in Germany before we drive into Denmark.
