Hmmm, but how much
does it really say about safety and perhaps honesty? Some people in the UK used to keep the front door key on a string inside the letterbox. But that wasn't because everyone was "jolly nice and honest". It was because no barstard had anything worth stealing. But that changed as people got wealthier in the 1960s and onwards. Now that Finns have gotten wealthier, so Rautia now sells more Abloys that brooms

Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I haven't had a chance to read all these post yet...and of course I don't live there....yet...

I WAS there at Christmas this year till after New Years Day....in Helsinki....we walked ALL over the place...took the Tram...you name it....was even in Tampere till 3am and I really have to say I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary....nothing....I wasn't really "scared" other then being in a "different" country! Though I do live outside of Philadelphia so that might have something to do with it!!
But seriously....my girlfriend and I really felt safe....we weren't clueless...but we weren't scared spitless either....

It was because polar bears were hibernating and there were unusually low amount of wolves around so they only prowled on suburbs.
Rest of the year you can't forget your spear at home and must learn to run fast from tree to tree.
You know we raise those trees here for purpose of hiding from predators?
Honestly, most small countries/areas (in terms of population density) tend to be peaceful and safe as long as you don't go out of your way looking for trouble.

be smart, and you will be safe.
it's not exact same case, but walking home from town at night in Norway is not that much more
fun.
my brother is out drinking every weekend,

and he walks home everytime.. no problems. his room-mate does the same, but somehow he always returns covered in blood. that he is big mouthed, might be a reason.
and drunk girls in mini skirts are just asking for trouble

well i live in a quite small town and never had any trouble (even though i dont look like north european but more south european) but of course i dont look for them neither. it wouldnt cross my mind to start to hit on a girl surrounded by 5 big tattoed bikers-style drunk guys at 4am in a park. but this is the same in every country anyway.
from my experiences i cn say that if you just have fun and respect the society rules its safe here (at least in my village). as for the girls, none of my finnish and non-finnish girl friends had trouble with natives. thats sad but the few troubles they had came for foreigners though.

Great picture Pursuviant! Wasn't that the mad old bat who interfered in the Olympics somehow? Anyway..............
Whoever compiles these statistics saying Ireland is the 3rd or 4th safest country in Europe has (a) never been there (b) never walked home from the city centre after midnight (c) never got bashed up for "looking" at some skanger (d) never had a car there - to get nicked, damaged etc. I could go on. I reckon Finland is much safer on a general basis. (aside from the odd few school shootings)

These statistics are not only related to "safety" of citizens inside the country, which partly may explains that this ranking does not match your own feeling about safety (in the streets) in Ireland compared to Finland.

If you have a clear conscious then you'd know the problem, and take the required evasive maneuvers.
Now answering to your question: Yes, Finland is a dangerous country. The most dangerous place in the solar system. Even Lucifer thinks twice before going for a walk in Finland

Finland has its own problems too. There are murders, child abuse, rapes, etc. but comparing it with other countries, it is quite safe.
According to statistics made in the past, Finland is one of the most violent countries in EU but it is not seen as much because it has only 4-5 million inhabitants.
Drinking is a major factor in violence.
