You mean like Yyteri or Kalajoki?

Hanko has a nice sandy beach.

or take a ferry to Estonia... there are big sandy beaches along the coast there.

Take a ferry to Pihlajasaari. That's the easy solution.

There are lots of sand beaches along the south cost, but most of them are not public places.

Almost Every are facing the sea has a sandy beach. Depends on how much sand you are looking for..
A "sandy coast" is probably non-existent..
Otherwise, Sipoo, Helsinki, Espoo, Kirkkonummi, Inkoo, All have sandy beaches where people go for picnics during summer and have kids play areas..
search for "uimaranta"
e.g. http://www.esbo.fi/default.asp?path=1;2 ... 6105;16132

:?

I think the OP is looking for sand (yellow -> white, fine) as opposed to grit (dirty grey, coarse granite)

I have never seen a natural sandy beach in Espoo. Even at our mökki, the sand on the beach came off the back of a truck.

Isn't the water going to be too cold, anyway?

If you want beaches in Finland, you could always try here.

There are enclaves with fine sand...not big, but big enuff ...where many do picnic..
Inkoo has 3 of them...
Kirkkonummi has 3-4..
Heck even KarjaLohja has a fine sandy beach close to the highway ( on the way to Hanko )...

OK maybe I should get out more then!

Come to think of it Tammisaari / Ekenas also has a kind of sandy beach with a diving board etc.

Yes and they also have a jungle jim in the center close to the beach.
But KarjaLohja beach is pretty isolated and quiet for a nice picnic. They also have a changing Shack and a open grill.
There is also one main beach in Inkoo that has a Grill and Shack to change with a beach Volleyball place and a couple of swings.
its close to the Inkoo library.
There are also sandy beaches for fresh water lakes in and around these areas.
