Van Scratch Incident

Post by maali » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:30 am

I am an international student at TKK and I was driving TKY Student Union Van for moving apartment. I made scratch under the door on the right side and a dent. TKY got aaccident report from me and sent to Fennia. I dont know what will happen next. What are the insurance laws in Finland. Is it like the student union will get the amount from the Fennia and Fennia will bill me for the whole damage? I mean will the insurance company pay the damage or the insurance company will make me to ay the whole damage? If anyone can guide me, please.

well there is no way for us to know, it depends on what kind of deal the student union has. You should contact them and ask. If they are lending out vans to students, they must have some kinds of rules about these things.

I have sent student union an email but still waiting for the reply. I heard that in Finland, insurance companies insure the owner and the car. Now I am not the owner, will they make me to pay as a rule?

If you're so worried about what will happen, you should have checked before you borrowed the car.

If you were allowed to use the van and if you were not gross negligence, it should be settled between the insurance and the students union. They cannot claim money from you if they haven't told you that possibility beforehand.

What they'll charge usually is the "liability". Depends on the deal the student union has on loaning out the van what the liability is. Usually it reads in the paper you sign when renting.

Learning how to drive is expensive.

I have been driving for long. It was a mere accident as the stone was under the snow and it put scratches sidewise and a small dent on the place under the door.

Yeah, we have those "parking attendants" in our yard too. Should have heard the snowplough driver curse he drove the tractor smack into one thinking it was a snowdrift...
