Hello, sir. The situation is pretty pretty bad at the moment. Many people are kicked out from work place.
Do not expect that much for a job right now, but to be more postive, you probably can do:

- Own self-employed company? (Consulting? Depending on your own background.)
- Or some freelancer job? Translating, etc?
- Try enjoy the life with relatives or kids?

But, remember, keep trying, you might get something in the end.

Have a nice summer! ;)

Sir, it is better you live like some Finns themselves at 60. Lay back everyday and go play some tähti peli (one is at your nearest R-kioski/Citymarket), play keno with 0.50cent or euro every time you have the chance, go to the cottage in the weekends. Summertime is here so it is time for the berries, you can earn loads with this one. When it's winter, go to some island near Malaga or Spain. You should be able to cope with some eläkeraha and if that is not enough, wednesdays, fridays and saturday nights should be your jackpot when those younger ones drink and litter the streets with bottles and cans

I'd love to set up a business and give jobs to people.

Sir, I'll swap with you?

Try the above suggestion and add teaching to the list. You could take up some part time work.

Fine work, Sir. Well played, Sir.

Sir, have you ever noticed that people who start their sentences with "Sir" are invariably from the sub-continent. Have you Sir? Mmm, mm? Suits you Sir.

Must close, Memsahib is calling.

Yours, etc.

There are a lot of jobs for "qualified" people. Please don't tell us that you've lived on this old world for sixty years and not become qualified in anything of any value to the working world. (In jolly old England, your not a "sir" until you're knighted.)

As I said I don't give a sh-t about being a sir I'm from London and a working class family so all that crap doesn't bother me, but I don't think you live in Finland do you? Qualified or not here you must speak the language before you can get anywhere.

Right...an expert on English culture now? 'Sir' is also used to be polite same as in states.

Bm50 - So you have no job or sense of humour...Dut I bigress. Why wont they let you back? Well, I speak jack-all Finnish and been here perm. for 8 years plus...I am working. so I don't think that's 100% true. I teach, doing that TEFL thing...crap salary, crap conditions, crap job but it will keep you off the streets and you know what they say about the devil and idle hands. there's some upsides too. Kinda social aspect to the job and you can get some good classes and have a good laugh with them. Schedules can be made quite free and that.

You could give it a shot. There's at least 2 of us that I know on the forum that do it. Let us know if you want any connections or advise. But as has been mentioned before it's hard to get work at the moment...unless you look at the colleges, Universities.

Well, there is that (generally true throughout Finland) but....If you do some (not all) of the things dampa posted, you may find that "networking" with the people you meet through these activities will help you locate the job you want. (Maybe not too, but it's worth trying.)
