Scholarship in Finland
Is there any chance on getting a scholarship to learn Finnish in Finland?
I am running out of ideas on how to live in Finland and secure some income in the same time. Tried to find an English teaching job...not an easy task, let me tell you. Tried to become a nanny, but as a university graduate it really isn't the best career choice. If somebody has a good idea PLEASE help. Thanks.

It might be called the integration allowance from KELA:.
but then you need to qualify for it..
Also check aid for normal students here:

Non-citizens of Finland can get financial aid for studies in Finland if they live in Finland on a permanent basis for a purpose other than studying. This requires that they are registered as a permanent resident in the Finnish population register system. The purpose of residence in Finland is determined by reference to such matters as the residence permit, registration or acceptance to an educational institution. Applications for financial aid must be accompanied by the appendix form OT10 for foreign residents.
If you come to Finland solely for the purpose of attending a school, you cannot get Finnish student financial aid.

But a dual Finnish citizenship holder would be entitled to student Financial Aid if they need it right?raamv wrote: If you come to Finland solely for the purpose of attending a school, you cannot get Finnish student financial aid.

Usually, yes, but it's worth remembering that KELA student financial aid is only available for full-time studies that lead to an academic or a vocational degree, not to language courses, open university studies etc.Cloudberry wrote:But a dual Finnish citizenship holder would be entitled to student Financial Aid if they need it right?raamv wrote: If you come to Finland solely for the purpose of attending a school, you cannot get Finnish student financial aid.

Well... you are probably supposed to tell them that your father wont give you that information.tregoatx2 wrote:How would I say in scholarship that my father refuses to give away his financial information? This is for a scholarship. Both parents information is required and my parents are divorced. My Dad doesn't want to give away his information and refuses to do so. I only live with my mom and my dad supports me only through means of child support.
It says in the scholarship text "Whether parents are married or divored, financial information for both is required". What am I supposed to do if my Dad won't give me his information?

This "doesn't compute" for Finnish bureaucrats - tax records are public so there is no way to "refuse".

The study is already free. Why the hell do you want a scholarship too?

Hi,
Yeah its hard to find a permanent english speaking job here in Finland. Its difficult alone trying to find an english speaking internship place to fulfill your degree requirements, so I can just imagine. But my suggestion is check all the english speaking firms you hear about in Finland. I got an offer for my internship at 6 Degrees Magazine (Finland's English Language Newspaper). You could also check Helsinki Times newspaper. Another possibility is F-Secure, but they're an IT company, so they hire more IT people. In my little over 3 years here I only know of these. You could also join social english speaking sites like www. i e s a f .fi (International English Speakers Association of Finland) and www. j o l l y d r a g o n .net and post your request there. Both these sites have a job seekers forum where u can get feedback. Hope you have found or find something. All the best!
