boat trailer from Biltema

Post by Cod » Mon May 11, 2009 10:50 pm

..anyone know any good reason why this boat trailer isn't a good deal?

It goes for 249euro, then you need to kit out the lights. Seems a bargain..or am I missing something?

How big and heavy is your boat? Looks like there is no cranking system for winding the boat up out of the water onto the trailer. If you have a big 4WD then maybe you can lower the trailer far enough into the water to float the boat on top??? But some of those ramps are steep and slippery....

We have a small Buster, but we use the crank to pull the boat out of the water onto the trailer. Or at least, they do. I watch.

As usual, take a large pinch of salt when trusting suomi24... but I'd take it into consideration. That thread in short: you cannot get that biltema's "trailer" registered as trailer.

that's the way EVERYONE does it in New Zealand...this whole thing of keeping the boat in a marina is what they'd call down under 'posh'.

I think you missed my point. I was just wondering HOW you can get the boat back onto the trailer if there is no crank system for winching it up.

BTW: the municipalities rent out moorings for "unposh" prices but there is usually a waiting list. We never bothered but we have a trailer and a 4WD so can drop it in and out without too much hassle (but you would have to queue on a sunny Sunday in summer).

oops sorry  Wonder why I used capitals in the above post. Odd.

Anyway..self tapping screws, drill and biltemma winch...figure there must be a way to put one on.

Good point though, I've never seen these trailers without a winch built onto it, even if it's a beach trailer used by lifeguards with an inflatable...so don't know why it is they're selling it without it...no winch means you have to completely bury the trailer in the water to get the boat up, rather than winching it on.

Nice to know that someone else uses a boat trailer - I get wierd looks when I suggest that other parts of the world see this as the norm and Finland has 25 lakes per person, so why keep the boat in only 1 of the 25,000.

Katsastus could be a issue, if you are putting lights on it

Keywords: muutama vuosi sitten = few years ago, when laws were more lenient. Also he made the trailer from scratch.

Also from other forum: ( http://www.kalastus.com/keskustelu/mess ... 1205920774 ) you would have to put suspension and lights and get certificates (regarding use on the roads) from manufacturer to register that... good luck. ;)

wondered how it was riding so low....if this was lunch - I'ld reach for my coat and slink out the door to save any sense a self-respect - dunno how I missed that one (no suspension, hence the speed restriction)

Sorry about not doing my homework on this one gents
