Any good/reliable ompelimo (sewing place) in Espoo?
Any good/reliable ompelimo (sewing place) in Espoo?
Hey!
I am looking for a good and reliable ompelimo (sewing shop) / tailor in the Espoo area that can make my suit smaller. I am about 15 kilos lighter than last summer when I last used it and have some weddings to go to this summer so I'll need it again. I just don't wanna take it to some place that isn't going to do a nice job. Preferably in the Espoo area. Kirkkonummi would be ok too actually. Thanks! I have found several through google, but just thought to ask here to see if any of you have any experiences or recommendations of places?
PS- sorry for posting this in two places, I accidentally posted it to the wrong place. This belongs here.

Go to Dressmann or Halonen, you can get a suit for say 50 bucks. Or then you spend 500 bucks in tailoring your original 50 buck suit... as kilos do come back with a vengeance

Hehe well I wish it was just one of the 50€ suits. My shoulders are too wide for those. Even when I get one of the bigger sizes the shoulders don't sit right and the stomach area is was too big. My suit that I have is a tailored one. Just not done here in Finland. I had some work done a few years back on a different suit coat and it wasn't so bad to fix it a bit. But that was in Tampere. My kilos aren't gonna come back (knock on wood)Pursuivant wrote:Go to Dressmann or Halonen, you can get a suit for say 50 bucks. Darn, I've been yo-yoing at 110 +-10 now for 3-4 years. Sorry, the only place I know... erm... I knew as it seems some renovators closed the place was at my local mall.

Ok thanks, I guess I'll just pick one and see how it goes. You know its just a little scary bringing someone a good suit to fix wondering if they're gonna screw it up. But I'll take my chancesPursuivant wrote:Darn, I've been yo-yoing at 110 +-10 now for 3-4 years. Sorry, the only place I know... erm... The weight loss stuff is hard. I went from 145 to about 105 in a little over 6 months, then summer came and I went back up 125 due to going on vacation getting lazy, and not being motivated to get back on track until January. Then when I realized spring was soon gonna come and all my new summer clothes aren't gonna fit I got back on track and again the next summer came and I got to about 100. And what happens? I do the same freaking thing again after promising myself I will never be so stupid! This time it went back to 118 by January. I again got back on track and got it down under 100. Now I have been keeping it under 100 and trying my hardest to get to 90kg but it's darn near impossible

Not much help to you... the last suit I bought in Espoo was in Stockmann Tapiola and they have their own service, but it's only for stuff bought from them http://www.stockmann.fi/portal/fi/muoti/palvelut/jas_rho wrote:Hey!

If looking for a recut of the jacket, you could also search for räätäli (tailor) in addition to ompelimo (dressmaker's).

Re: Any good/reliable ompelimo (sewing place) in Espoo?
Last time I went to buy dog food in Niittykumpu I noticed a sewing place had opened up in the small mall on Niittymaantie (there is a supermarket, an Avis rental place, the pet store, an alko, a golf shop and a rock shop in the same building). IIRC there were two Asian women working there (maybe from Philippines or Thailand???) but to be honest I have never used the place (or any other in Espoo). I wonder if Stockmann would tell you who they use if you explained your dilemma. They might. I think the sewing shop on the main street in Olari centre also does repairs (but not sure about alterations). As Sinikala says, you really need a tailor because it is a delicate job. On the other hand, if the suit is unwearable as is... you might as well take the risk. Ask for a quote because it might be expensive.

The magic word for mens tailor is "räätäli" or "vaatturi".

I called a couple places along paths that I drive and one place called Ompelimo Atelje Centinel. The lady said she has taken in suits many times so I will take it to her. She didn't have time today for me to come in and her to pin off the places that need fixed but I'll go next week. Hopefully she knows what she's doing

Ompelimo Paulet in Töölö (its not Espoo but close) did a decent job on a jacket of mine.
Re: Any good/reliable ompelimo (sewing place) in Espoo?
I'll keep you posted. I took it in today and I didn't at least get a bad impression from the lady as she was pinning the pants and the jacket. I am not in a hurry to get it done though and am going on vacation in a few weeks so it might be that she doesn't have it ready till July when I get back from vacation. But I'll come back and let you guys know how it turned out! It's costing my 85€. I managed to bargain down from 90€. But she has to take the jacket in from three parts and do the pants as well so considering that, I don't think its too bad. It's a 500€ suit so I might as well get it fixed so I can use it.penelope wrote:Would be interested to know the outcome...

Well thats pretty reasonable. BTW when you get back if you can ask her does she change leather jacket linings... I've got one a bit frazzled...

Yeah I can ask. I actually noticed two leather coats hanging in there when I was there so she obviously does something with leather jackets. But I'll ask when I go and post back here when I do.Pursuivant wrote:Well thats pretty reasonable. BTW when you get back if you can ask her does she change leather jacket linings...
