why Finns divorce?
Someone told that around 54% of couples in Finland file for divorce ? What are the reasons ?
Why Finnish men marry south- east Asian or Russian girls and Finnish women marry foreigners?

Re: why Finns divorce?
Same as elsewhere, the love they found initially, just died. Finland is now an advanced society, where women are nearing equality and have much more financial independence than they used to in Finland. I was recently in Hämeenlinna's Women's Prison (closed in the 1990s, now a museum, very interesting), and a century or so ago many of the inmates were there for vagrancy, i.e. they had no home. Many were women who had left an unhappy marriage, many had left a marriage in which they were regularly beaten by violent husbands. The high divorce rate in Finland makes me feel quite happy, it means that less women are being forced to stay in unhappy marriages, and they have the freedom to leave. This is a stark contrast to some less advanced cultures in the world, where women do not have this type of freedom. I'd say this is an important area for immigrants to understand, you cannot treat a Finnish woman like you can perhaps treat women in your own country.love_not_war wrote:Someone told that around 54% of couples in Finland file for divorce ? That is an easy one. Some women from these cultures follow the path of cook, clean, f* * k, without question or complaint. Oh, and Russian women know how to make themselves look nice, and wear nice shoes.

More difficult perhaps. There is a theory that Finnish men are not very attentive to women. So the first time they meet a foreigner who pays them some compliments and has a few table manners, they fall tip-top, head over heels in luuuuurve. As Roman Schatz says in his book, Finnish women are easy prey for a foreigner who doesn\t get rolling drunk and has a few social skills.

And divorce is easy, just some paperwork.

No alimony for the partner, only maintenance cost for the kids.

And then goes 2 years and the foreigner learns Finnish and says "shut up woman and go back to the kitchen"Karhunkoski wrote:So the first time they meet a foreigner who pays them some compliments and has a few table manners, they fall tip-top, head over heels in luuuuurve.

Okies, so if a Finnish fella is married to a Russian/East European then why is he considered loser, fat and ugly by a (very general) standard of Finnish women?Karhunkoski wrote:There is a theory that Finnish men are not very attentive to women. With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.
Re: why Finns divorce?
Most of those Finnish men who marry Asian women are quite old and divorced with children already. Used goods that is

Re: why Finns divorce?
This may be one of those cases where Finland is just another name for Sweden (which is just another name for Switzerland, right)?
International Divorce Statistics
In that list, Sweden leads at 54.9% and Finland lags in third place at 51.2% So somebody probably saw the Swedish figure and re-quoted it for Finland. Finland is high, but not all that far off the averages for other developed nations. It would take a lot more digging to know whether that's because Finnish couples get along worse than others or simply that they have fewer economic and social reasons to stay in a marriage once it has died on the inside.
It could be that Finnish stoicism makes Finnish couples less likely than others to seek counseling until too late. But that's only one of a variety of possible explanations and without further information, it's no more or less probable than others.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Some credible alternative explanations include
* Too many bears in the woods
* The lingering influence of ancient tribal customs
Further evidence for these and related theories can be found in this excellent field investigation:

Re: why Finns divorce?
I think a Finnish woman married to a Moroccan or Tunisian guy would be viewed in the same way as a Finnish guy married to a Thai woman. Both have just trawled someone in based on living in a western country with a western passport.Oombongo wrote:Okies, so if a Finnish fella is married to a Russian/East European then why is he considered loser, fat and ugly by a (very general) standard of Finnish women?Karhunkoski wrote:There is a theory that Finnish men are not very attentive to women. Video posted by Bubba is a common scene of the finnish family life. So not difficult to understand divorces and marriages with foreigners.
