Post by Stephen B » Mon May 25, 2009 2:24 pm

So next week my step son and I are taking the buss to Helsinki, Him and I just want to explore the city maybe go to a park and toss the football around for a bit.
Was wondering if anyone has any other (not expensive :) ) ideas?

my favourite thing to do is to have soup at Hakaniemi market, and they give you a children's sized bowl in addition to all you can eat bread & pesto.

Two very obvious for a ten-year-old: Linnanmäki amusement park and Korkeasaari zoo.

Mine love Suomenlinna. There are some underground passages (take a torch, or not, depending on your night vision) and get a map from the kiosk (they probably charge a euro or two  ) there are also canons and if you have a kite take that too or get a cheapy one from Etola, Tarjoustalo or HongKong. There is also a submarine you can visit (but that costs) and loads of outdoor picnic places, a beach etc...

Be sure to take the municipal ferry over (which is the same price as a bus ticket) as the private ferries charge much more.

Soup sounds good, but for a cheaper alternative to the zoo and amusement park why not spend an hour at the mini-golf, my kids love it still.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.
