Places to BBQ and watch midsummer bonfire (Helsinki)?

Post by luckykitty » Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:46 pm

Hey,
Are there any places I could barbeque and watch the midsummer bonfire, (or located close), and is there any cost to enter? (apart from seurasaari)

Thanks!
LK

There were some other options mentioned in this thread just recently... Mustikkamaa & Suomenlinna... there could be others (?)

...however if we are to believe the weatherman then it seems we'll get mostly rain tomorrow :?

There's a BBQ place (or two, or even three) in Pihlajasaari, and bonfire. (if the weather is good, there might be a lot of people, but tomorrow seems rather rainy...) Ferry ticket there and back - is it some 5-6e?

Eh... no, sorry. Their pages say this:
Open fires and barbecues are prohibited in the entire area of Suomenlinna. Residents are entitled to light barbecues in the vicinity of their dwellings and on their rented vegetable plots.
I was sort of concentrating on the bonfire aspect too much  And a few years ago people were using those disposable grills there on their picnics (that's probably why the grilling was banned, the lawns were full of charred spots etc...)

Is there a place where I can watch the bonfire in Lahti?

If you are talking about BBQ then I would like to know if I can make a small one (disposable grill), on an open balcony, is it prohibited? Most likely yes I guess but I would still like to know :)
