Best value and tasty lunch places under 10e in HKI?
Hi, i haven't tried many lunch places in Helsinki still and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? The food quality comes first but preferably a nice atmosphere to sit in.
I like international cuisine.
My experiences so far
Namaskaar express: Chicken was so dry it was like they boiled out the flavour, like if you were making soup.
Kabuki: Managed to cause me to drink 3 or more glasses of water so my dish was way too salty.
Mount everest
Food was good, so this is the standard i expect.
Your experiences?
Which thai place is best btw?
Thanks,
LK

Perho culinary school does a lunch buffet for 9,20 e (just over from the cemetary between Ruoholahti and Kamppi). The choice is mostly seasonal produce and everything is prepared fresh daily by the students and served by the students. During the summer the buffet is only open Mon-Fri 11-15:00. I think it is extremely good value for money (quality of the ingredients, quantity and price). The decor is a bit boring (it is a school...) but there is a bar in the restaurant which serves Perho's own brew of beer (there is a micro-brewery in the same building) and coffee. But for those who prefer ethnic food or fast food with tons of salt, MSG and chilli, then it is probably not the best place to go

More often than not I find myself heading for the small Kruo Thai on Mechelininkatu.luckykitty wrote:Which thai place is best btw?

I'm not sure if i can rely on that, except that I def shouldn't visit anything under 4 stars or 3.5 in rating, cos that Kabuki restaurant is rated as 4, when the waitress was pretty unfriendly (not even smiling ever, to us anyway) and at least whatever I ordered was like a salt lick with slight possibility of additional MSG beyond the sheer abuse of soysauce + salt :S. So dont order the stewed beef thing, maybe everything else is ok. Or maybe the chef accidentally went overboard and decided to serve it to the customer anywayraamv wrote:http://www.eat.fi

Sounds like you ordered the wrong food there. Kabuki offers the best sushi as far as I have experienced in Finland, but if you want meat dishes, you don't wanna go to a Japanese restaurant.luckykitty wrote:I'm not sure if i can rely on that, except that I def shouldn't visit anything under 4 stars or 3.5 in rating, cos that Kabuki restaurant is rated as 4, when the waitress was pretty unfriendly (not even smiling ever, to us anyway) and at least whatever I ordered was like a salt lick with slight possibility of additional MSG beyond the sheer abuse of soysauce + salt :S. Lunch places i have liked (not so ethnic):
Soup kitchen in Hakaniemen kauppahalli
Excellent soups, good for socializing as it is always crammed
Crete restaurant in Hietalahden kauppahalli
nice views from upstairs
Konstan Molja Hietalahdenkatu (log cottage
atmosphere, buffet of Finnish food, meat fish etc), good value and a really nice place
Zucchini Fabianinkatu
only lunch, vegetarian meals
Thai place in Kasarmitori
I also like Silvuplee stuff (near Hakaniementori), it is very tasty being raw food, but it is a bit expensive, 10e might do it
Heard places in Korkeavuorenkatu (Sapa's etc) have also good value lunch.
Gandi (next to Kisahalli) is supposed to be good as well, that is (Northern) Indian
