Pray tell me whither the esteemed colleague from the forest shires withstands such arduous torture, or should we just subject their senses to somebody been in steerage to Sweden?Karhunkoski wrote:Don't take offence, find a fellow Finn who has lived outside of Finland for some time, and ask him his honest opinion.

There's a lot of that in the U.S.onkko wrote: "Olihan ne ilosia, hampaat vaan vilkku että yes sir ja of course sir mutta vitut mitään tapahtunu, ..."
Many people seem to have become confused about the motto "Service with a smile." They seem to think it means "Service IS a smile, and little else."
Now in Africa, a broad smile with head-bowing and enthusiastic "yes sir"s probably means, "My wife is preparing a potion just for you and I will slip it into your food and if that doesn't work I have a little green mamba-snake I will put into your bed, you insufferable colonialist."
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Ah, you peoples got it all arsey-versy. See now originally there was nothing. Except some guys in the forest and some dick swede in a stone house on the coast. So we tried to to copy and lick the arse of everything from other countries. And we built and built and built and tried to keep at par. But then we at some time realized all the foreigners had was actually w4nk, and it was all bloody marketing, so they actually can go w4nk as we took it and made it better. Like the Japanese. I think the only places you can still see "Fonzie" is in Finland and Japan.Bubba Elvis XIV wrote:What confuses me is if everything is so damn good in Finland why do finns spend half their time trying to copy and lick the arse of everything from other countries?

Theres always things to fix but mainly things are good in here. Can you die because of no food or no house? Because of no hospital help? I thought so...Bubba Elvis XIV wrote: And I can say very little works in Finland. Just people have this blind nationalism to make up for their own national insecurities.

I rather have blind nationalism and Paavo Väyrynen, than multiculturalism and sharia courts and BNP.

Except all this is lie, we had kingdom and all before swedes invaded us. We looked how invaders and and others we had trade for long time did and just made it suitable to us or just better, or show others how to built decent sauna. What the hell has this got to do with speed cameras...?
And another thing....Why can't I get a decent kebab and can someone tell me where I can buy a stupid pack of crips, and why can't I make friends and why is everyone so rude and why is it sooo cold and why do Finnish women act so stupidily?

There is group of people who usually say that to another group of people. And that is parents to their children.haepas mulle is rude as you'd address a messenger boy "run off and fetch me...".
Haepas keittiöön puita. Laitapas tämä lanka neulansilmään. Pesepäs kätesi That is not rude, that is like a little gentle push to get some needed action.
Re: About Speed Cameras ?
I'm told, though, that it's quite normal in Pohjanmaa (at least). And intuitively, it feels perfectly in harmony with the stereotype of the wife who runs the whole farm through the power of the rolling-pin she wields like Caesar's staff. (Maybe instead of SPQR, the rolling pin has SKDL or SDKP emblazoned on it.)Pursuivant wrote: haepas mulle is rude as you'd address a messenger boy "run off and fetch me..."... its hakisitko, the conditional implying the please/could (possibility to say "fetch it yourself you lazy git")
And when I think of a bunch of Finnish movie-couples I've seen, I have trouble imagining the people saying "hakisitko" to each other. Which do you think couples use more often?
