How long should a NATIONAL bank to bank transfer take?

Post by Cod » Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:33 pm

Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows anything concrete about how long it should usually take to transfer , say, EURO 120,000 (one hundred, twenty thousand) from a Nordea account to a Sampo account, that is, within finland. Then a Sampo account to a Sampo account, again, both in Finland?

I'm getting a wooly number of 'around 3 days'.

This sounds a little unusually vague for Finland..just wondering if anyone knows something about this, since we've got a bit of an issue where money was transferred twice and took 12 working days.

taa!

Let's make an experiment. Send me 10 EUR to my account and I'll tell you when it's available

From my experience within the same bank is almost immediate. In between banks takes 1 to 2 days, probably depending on the hour - I am guessing but never 12 days :D

Its about 1 to 3 days, it has to be cleared in "main bank".

If youre horry you can ask "check" (dunno if its same than in us) and walk with it to other bank. You can also ask cash. Well lets say both are bad ideas if you think your mental health.
Scariest thing i have done is move 100,000e from bank to other and i have drove 250cc enduro 100km/h in woods.

..thanks all hugely

..the cash idea by Enduro at 100 km-h in a forest is a goody. It's the kind of thing maybe everyone should do once in their life ...anything for a bit of a thrill - carrying 100k in a backpack is so uncommon it's almost safe..and this case, it saves 5 days interest, which is around 100 euro - not bad.

Hank is right.

Just go to Nordea (or whomever) and ask for a "bank check".

It's 10x safer than cash, and even safer than credit card.

It's annoying that it takes 2-3 days for money transfer from say Nordea to Sampo or visa versa, because there's no technical resaon for that, hasn't been for a long time. I suspect banks are unwilling to make it faster, because that systems gives them billions of free capital. So unless us customers don't demand that capital to us, banks don't make some simple push of buttons and make it faster.

BTW, from an EU bank say from Spain, money transfer is 4-5 days.

I was told the tranfer from one bank to another in Finland takes about 2-3 days, either via bank transfer of by paying cash to a bank account which the same bank where transferring monies. Odd indeed ...
For example, from Greece to Finland it takes only 2 days.
Maybe it is the famous paperwork they have to do here ... who knows.

It's all about the numbers.
If you transfer 15€ it will go faster than if you transfer 150.000€. Why? Because 150.000€ one day extra in the bank will give a good amount more profit for the bank than 15€.
I wouldn't be surprised if they would stretch the transfer of such an amount to 4-5 days, with all the necessary excuses and apologies and a saintish smile.
