Here to there travel...

Post by r32 » Wed Mar 18, 2009 4:43 pm

I would like to get some info regarding motels/guest houses outside Stockholm (20-30 km). Anything available? Never traveled to Sweden so I don't know if they have guest houses/motels.
I plan to go through Sweden and get to Denmark in summer and I would like to get some details regarding accommodation.

Using that page you can make a search of hostels in Sweden (you can also get double/single rooms, not just dorms!).

Does any of you own a ClubOne card from TallinkSilja?
I would like to get one but I would like to hear your personal take on this :D
By the way, what's with the levels, bronze, silver, gold...how much does each card cost?

I have the ClubOne card from Silja. We ordered it sometime last year and it finally arrived not long ago. Didn't bothered us tho - nowadays we only go to Sweden via Turku with Viking Line.
Regarding the ClubOne card it entitles you to discounts onboard aswell as the ticketprices. The higher the level, the more the discount.
And how to get to a higher level? As with every other card: spend more €€€ aboard their ships etc.
IMHO not worth it unless you do crazy amount of travelling between FI & SE.

Is Viking Line better for Turku-Stockholm?

I don't know the standards for your voyages to consider it better, but when we go to Sweden - it's because we drive across to get to Denmark. Therefore - when we board the ship, we usually just go directly to bed in order to be rested and drive the remaining 800km to DK non-stop through the night.
No need for us to use onboard entertainment, gourmet dinner etc etc.
In term of pricing, Viking Line is a tad cheaper than Silja. I believe we pay around 50€ for a daytime carpackage - incl. a cabin with shower - outside the summer months. So yeah, moneywise, Viking is a better choice. We usually spend the savings from the ticket, to buy a bag full of apple-pies in the first McD we meet in SE.
Check out their homepage, but notice that the finnish version has lower pricing than the english version. Don't ask why, because I don't know.

Thanks, good and useful info :) I will take that into consideration.
What the price for a car package - incl. cabin with shower for summer time?
How about in Stockholm, do you know any cheaper parking place in center of the city?
