Obviously swedished name of Kalle Kallenpoika!
I would say Kalle Kallenpoika is Finnished from Swedish as many things and words are from Swedish in Finnish.
Sure... Kalle/germaani Karl "(free) man", latina Carolus/Karl, Carlo, Carlos, Karoly, Karel.
Kalle in this was only "worldplay" because of "kalle kustaa korkki", in Kustaa you would have been brobably right Kustaa was probably from old swedish Götstaf/Gustav, Gösta but that then comes from latin "honored" August, Augustus, Augustin, Austin. Which one was first?

Yes there is Norway and Sweden as Germanic countries but there was no such a thing as Finland in past,it was part of Sweden so it prooves that your language has a lot of words from them.

Wasnt there? then i must say some historians has to talk with you like Tacitus. Finland was around well before swedish invasion and did trade with Germany (according to name that could be germanic country) and up to mediterranian and black sea.

How about realising that many many Finns who have spent extended periods of time living abroad, really do think that most Finns lacks manners, in comparison to where they've lived. I know quite a few friends and family who have said just this. Of course Tiswas, they must have been telling porkies  The fact doesn't bother me greatly, but your arrogant and introverted junttiness does. I have a choice whether to live in Finland or not, but I live here. You're just here.

You can reply if you wish, but I promise not to read any more of your angry drivel for a few days.
And your country does not come with any dissenters or oddballs? How very wonderful that your perfect, well mannered home is so purely one minded about these things.

I have quite a few friends and family as well. People who travel for living and so forth. And they find it enjoyable to come to Finland where things are "the way they should".

I quite enjoy going abroad as well, we are planning a little trip at start of summer vacation with SO. But unlike you, I do not carry my own prejudices to foreign countries and presume that they must act like people would act in Finland.

You are really narrowminded person. You try to pretend that you are "citizen of the world" and metropolitan person. But scratch that false image a little and what we find is bigger juntti than me, because you still have not figured out that different countries have different tradition and manners. And it is damn sure not your place, or mine when I am abroad, to tell natives that their tradition or code of conduct is somehow wrong.

But then again, being juntti, which you are, such thoughts are most likely wasted upon you.

I hate letting myself down, but here goes.

Which country are you referring to? I'm a dual citizen, which gives me one more passport than you've got big shot. :P Ner ner ner ner neerrrrrr. :P

I know what you mean, I feel the same sometimes.

Tiwaz wrote: I quite enjoy going abroad as well
I don't. Most of my travel is work-related, and I can't wait to get abck to Finland.

A wild accusation Tiswas, your imagination and flawed logic have eloped to the bar, got hellishly drunk together, and now fail you in your time of need. Sorry, nil point this time.

Tiwaz wrote: You are really narrowminded person. You try to pretend that you are "citizen of the world" and metropolitan person.
Your senses are still stoned. I'm far from a citizen of the world, and would certainly fail the pub quiz culture and geography round should the questions fly further than France, England or our beloved Finland. And I'm not keen on large cities.

Now we're getting somewhere Tiswas :P Of course different countries have different traditions and manners, whoever said they didn't? It would be so dull if everywhere was the same.

Really got yourself in a tizzy this time, haven't you.

Now go and take your medication (was it for high blood pressure? I forgot which it was), sit down and relax. :D

Just to help you focus Tiswas.

Of course within "Finnish culture", the natives can decide what is "good manners" and what is "bad manners", but what "outsiders" see as "good manners" is far from "irrelevant". Not least because many Finns are incurably obsessed with what "outsiders" think of them, no?

Well, clearly the one where everything is perfect.

A wild accusation Tiswas, your imagination and flawed logic have eloped to the bar, got hellishly drunk together, and now fail you in your time of need. Sorry, nil point this time.
Hell, it is YOU who whines how Finns do not know what good manners are in their native land.

Your senses are still stoned. I'm far from a citizen of the world, and would certainly fail the pub quiz culture and geography round should the questions fly further than France, England or our beloved Finland. And I'm not keen on large cities.
And yet, you see yourself capable of telling how Finns have no manners in their native land.
Now we're getting somewhere Tiswas :P Of course different countries have different traditions and manners, whoever said they didn't? It would be so dull if everywhere was the same.
So what happened to "we have international book of manners in civilized world and you unwashed barbarians do not fit these universal rules"-attitude?

Ultimately, it is irrelevant. But you are touching a real issue here. Finns are far too apologizing and far too appeasing towards foreigners. It is reducing over time when more and more people understand that foreigner is not better than Finn, but there is still much room for improvement.

And people like you, or Finns who act like you, who whine how Finns do not know how to act in their country and how this and that should be done...

Are not helping the process.
