I have a 6 year old and not a 10 year old, but I have invested in making sure she is aware of both cultures. Scholastic.com has a large selection of books for homeschooling purposes and I was able to find quote a few books about US culture - symbols, flags, historical figures, etc. Perhaps there is a scholastic store in Canada that serves the same purpose.

recovering from arm op so.... but creating a family tree is a way to show both cultures, scrap book, wallpaper, you can extend to towns, street maps, weather, nature, jobs, environment, local history, difference in ways grand parents brought up etc I did a family tree using photo's when my daughter was younger, bit bizarre to have my ex and her family looking down on me while i read bedtime stories. It's better to get all involved than just picking up a book, my daughter kept asking me to tell her stories about me as a child, her grandparents etc.
