is it really true?
Is it true that about 33-40% of the wives in Finland are beaten by their husbands? or is it just a misleading figure?
Re: is it really true?
Well how you measure it, if you measure it with other saying "@#$% £$€¤%&" then its correct. I have seen only 2 beatings and both were done by woman.love_not_war wrote:Is it true that about 33-40% of the wives in Finland are beaten by their husbands? or is it just a misleading figure?

Where did you get that figure?
Re: is it really true?
That figure comes on study and there were asked "did you ever experience verbal assault" like if i said to you "perkeleen akka" thats verbal assault and that figure was taken as "assaulted womans"...EP wrote:Where did you get that figure?

Re: is it really true?
I think its the opposite. Finnish women beat the crap out of their husband. Thats why some gets a divorce before they even start their honeymoon.

If you wish to convince people of something, it is more useful to be entertaining than to be right
Re: is it really true?
Well, verbal assault is not beating. If so many were beaten we would see a lot more black eyes. And what is a verbal assault? "Perkeleen akka" is a very mild verbal assault in my book (of course it depends on the tone and context). Far worse assault is mental violence. And women are just as capable to do that as men are. And mental violence can be even more destructive than physical. That figure comes on study and there were asked "did you ever experience verbal assault"
This way or that way, every case of domestic violence is too much, be it mental or physical. Or done by Finns or foreigners. A little while ago I was cleaning my basement and took a load of old toys to the nearby safe house for abused women. In that safe hose the majority of "clients" were immigrants.
But true, there is too much domestic violence.
Re: is it really true?
I recall reading something (I cannot remember what it was. Perhaps an article, or anti-DV campaigne) back in 2002-3 that said Finland had the highest rate of domestic violence in the EU. "Higher than Spain!" was the emphasis.

One must remember what is considered battery in Finland: http://www.aamulehti.fi/uutiset/kotimaa ... lya/147722
Short version: dragging child roughly from the arm (even if the intention is not to hurt the child) is battery according to the prosecutor.

Is violent sex considered as an assault. If yes, I plead guilty, your honor

Re: is it really true?
Perhaps around the same time, I once did the math comparing wife murdering in Finland and Spain based on public stats. Spain's absolute number of homicides was less than double of the Finnish one, which % wise turns out to be 5x higher murder rate for Finland.Hee wrote:I recall reading something (I cannot remember what it was. EP
Here is the link where i have got the info...
http://books.google.com/books?id=ds6JJN ... t&resnum=2
It is e-book.The name of the book is The other half By Jacqueline P. Wiseman. The book ( I guess) is about comparison between Finnish women and American women.
If you can not find it from the above link then you can find in google with the name of the book. In page 95 it is written that" Another 33 - 40% of the wives in the both cultures ( better to say American and Finnish) report that their husband beat them, slap them or rough them in in some way" (online version).
I guess , the figure is about the wives of alcoholics excluding the wives of non alcoholics.
EP where are you from anyway?

About half of serious beatings are done by woman, over half of child killings are done by woman.love_not_war wrote:EP

no sh*t.. i got beanten up by my ex-girlfriend when i was in first year in college in Los Angeles (very very loooooong time ago!!!!) Luckily my neighbor saw me getting beaten up on the corner near balcony so she called a police. it's not like i couldn't beat her up, but i would rather get beaten up and not going to jail, become a fresh meat, and get raped in LA county jail..
