Hello all,
Could somebody please explain me the concept of electricity sales here in Finland? We recently (a year now) moved to our house (independent house) in Vantaa and I cannot seem to get head or tail of it.
How exactly are they charging us? I thought they used an estimate based on the stuff we have, and even though we don't seem to be using much, we still get a bill of about 75 EUR/ month. The whole of last month, we were travelling so the only thing running was the heating system, but since no water was being used... baffles me!
I even call them occasionally to report the number and this is despite that.
If somebody could be so kind so as to give a detailed explanation, that would be really great.
Another thing: Is there any way to compare which company might give better offers?
Thanks a lot.
Charges for Electricity.
Re: Charges for Electricity.
1) try putting words "price" and "electricity" to the google search box, that is located upper right corner, and press search.
2) about invoicing: unless you have remote readable meter, they (you) estimate how much electricity you will consume in a year, divide that depending of billing period, send invoice once per billing period and check once a year your meter and after that you get some money back or bigger bill next time. See even if you don't use any electricity for a 3 month billing period, that doesn't show anywhere until the meter is read or if you don't take that into consideration when estimating energy consumption for whole year. And you will use much more electricity in the winter.

Entrer zip/post code, then company in charge of distributing the energy (not the producer...) and then the estimated annual electricity consumption. You even get a comparison on how "green" the energy sources are.

It also depends if you use heating wit electricity or just the lights etc.... my home in an apartment block I have washong machone/dryer, dishwasher etc. and fluorescent lighting these days its been 39/2 months. Cottage I use power tools and have heaters for the winter its 170/2 months... so one oil radiator makes a differnce(or three)

About the bills, it is possible that the company that is selling you electricity is using the consumption statistics from the previous
dweller who lived in your place, who perhaps enjoy every other day to use their electric sauna.
Usually in a year out of the N bills the electric company sends you N-1 bills (of equal amount) based on a fictious, 'estimated' consumption
(based on previous statistics of the household) and a final one where they balance what you have already paid with the cost based on the effective consumption.
