How to get married in Finland

Post by DharmaBum » Thu Jul 23, 2009 4:32 pm

Hello friends! My name is Jay and I am an American student living in England with my Polish girlfriend. We we are travelling all through Europe and Asia this summer and would like to get married in beautiful Finland. I did a bit of searching and found that the process is pretty simple. I was just looking for advice as to what I need and how long it usually takes. We arent going to live in Finland, just stay for a week or 2. The information I found wasnt 100 percent clear. We both have passports but what else do we need? Thank you for your help.
Jay and Olga

Both of you need sufficient official documents that you are not currently married. The advice of the US embassy for American citizens is here.

Your girlfriend should check what the Polish embassies says to their owns, but if you have been living in Britain, then maybe it is UK papers that are needed. Contact the magistrate office where you'd like the marriage to take place and ask. Procedure is simple if you have the right papers, but as you don't it may well be that you are not able to get them while traveling.

Do they have the Elvis theme on the menu?

Frying in the Chapel
Suspicious Fries
(It ain't Nothing but a) Hot Dog
