Cappuccino, book and Helsinki

Post by imleolee » Wed Jul 15, 2009 12:37 pm

Hello all, especially coffee lovers!

Well, I am not really a connoisseur of coffee but I genuinely enjoy reading a good book in a cafe with a good tasty and foamy cappuccino.

Few days ago I decided to explore the cafes in helsinki area in order to find the best place to drink cappucino and read a book. So my criteria is that it should be relatively quiet, cozy (comfortable seats and tables), good view (for those moment of contemplation over that beautiful sentence I have just read), scent (every coffee shop has distinct unique smells), and of course the taste of cappuccino (on of the most important criteria).

Any suggestion?

So far I have been to Ursula, Carrusel, Strindberg, Esplanad, Torni (they don't serve cappuccino, just the worst coffee I have ever tasted), Torparanta, Suomenlinna (don't know exact name of the coffee shop), Hvittrask and some other places that they are not worthy of mentioning here.

Please, if you know places that are really local and that fit the above criteria let me know.
Also, it does not have to be a coffee place. If you know a place (beach, forest or any spot that might be good for reading and enjoying a moment of solitude) good for reading please share with me, I can always bring my own coffee with me. For places with no name you can even tell me the satellite coordinates.

Thank you all, I hope to receive as many suggestions as possible!

Leo Lee

Hmmm.. makes me want to go and start a coffee shop in Helsinki

Which of those that you have tried had the best cappucino in your opinion?
The person on top of the mountain didn't just fall there.

Kitch bar/cafe, on the corner of Yrjönkatu and Eerikinkatu, serves a pretty good cappucino and some nice lounge chairs for your book-reading pleasure. Also has great tapas to go with intimate drinks with friends. www.kitch.fi (this site gives you the opening times, but apparently not much else...)

La Torrefazione is a cafe/roastery that just opened at Aleksanterinkatu 50 (entrance leads directly upstairs, cafe is above street level). Great coffee and cosy atmosphere, although depending on the time of day it may be a bit too busy to camp out with a book. www.latorre.fi

Gran Delicato is a friendly Greek cafe at Kalevankatu 34. Haven't tried the cappucinos, but branch out and try their Greek coffee!
