Ah, but it doesn't say it doesn't say anywhere they need to register you either. It says you do not need to have specific grounds as when non-EU's apply for a residence permit, which means any reason is good. It just then states the accepted reasons according to which you can get registered and thus domiciled. Getting onto the dole etc. depends on being domiciled.
Read the sentence above closely. Maybe you're not a natural English speaker?
I think you have a problem in understanding Finnish law text, English is not an official language in Finland so any foreign language interpretation is irrelevant.

I'm just saying that you don't need to fall into ANY group.. You don't default to another group, if you want to come here without a reason.

These are the groups:

for Union citizens who are workers
for Union citizens who are self-employed
for Union citizens who were workers or self-employed and retain this status
for Union citizens who are job-seekers
for Union citizens who are students
for Union citizens who are providing services
for other Union citizens
for their family members who are Union citizens themselves
for their family members who are not Union citizens themselves

However you are correct in that you may need to flash a bank statement (I never had to)

"However, they have to meet few conditions.
You have the right of residence in the host Member State in this capacity provided that:
You have comprehensive sickness insurance cover there; and
You have sufficient resources not to become a burden on the social assistance system during the residence."

And that Finnish police can and frequently do what they like, including telling you to p!ss off.. :(

You have sufficient resources not to become a burden on the social assistance system during the residence
Exactly, and no proof of not becoming a burden, i.e. "no reason" = piss off.

So in other words your advice of "yeah just move here your arse is gilt" is wrong. He goes to the police and they will tell him to "piss off" as he is likely to become a burden as he has no counterarguments. No money, no job, "want" to find a job and "want" to learn Finnish aren't "reasons" - on the contrary. Its like dealing with the tax office - you need to prove things. And that "other" category is like a pensioner or then someones handicapped cousin. etc. etc.

Besides which from the UK you do need the EU health card with you that covers your health insurance before you get into the KELA system - of course you can try without it but getting an ulcer dealing with the bureaucratics to add to the injury and it says something there about health coverage... And if you come as a jobseeker, you need to bring your paperwork and been in the UK jobcentre was it now for 4 weeks there on the dole not finding work to be able to carry over your UK dole into Finland for that 3 months. After which you are back into square one.

Bet you wish you'd never asked, eh shaun.
Here's the deal mate. Marry the girl then you're covered!
I'm married to a Finn and living in the UK.
If we move to Finland I think I would like to get as much solid advice as possible.

Marrying lets you stay in Finland. It does, however, not in any way help you to get a job or to get any kind of social network or anything to do in Finland. Think twice before you come to Finland, only to rot for five years without a job or anyone to talk to because you dont know any Finnish and you can not understand why no one prefers to talk to you in English instead of their native language.

I'm sure Shaun or any other Brit would not like to rot in Finland for 5 years. The argument seems to be weather you need a reason or not. I'm saying if you have a reason you should still get as much advice as possible. Personally I would love to move to Finland permanently but it is a big step.
Some helpfull advice would be appriciated

True, Im sure. Actually, I am sure that even non-Brits would prefer not to. duhh... But it happens every week that someone comes here and does just that. My point is that this should be something to think about IN ADDITION to questions about whether you are allowed to actually stay in the country.

So true  Perhaps this thread should be called "my girlfriend wants me to move to finland". Maybes the OP won't make much of this but like others said check if you can get a job before moving and leaving your current one.
FYL :?:

Most Finnish girls are quite adventurous and unless she wants to have kids in the very near future or could jeopardize her career by moving abroad (public sector, etc) there are no reasons for a move on her part to be considered at least as serious as your move here.

Dude... this is completely misleading. Yes you do not need a "reason" to live in Finland, under EU law, but without a reason you MUST must must (not maybe, but must) meet these conditions, after 3 months. If you do not meet this then you are technically illegal:
Ok, now I think I see why everyone was flaming me.. My writing was too loose for some of you.

I was not saying you don't need to register yourself. Of course you have to if you stay longer than 3 months.

I was saying that when you register yourself, you don't need to have a reason. But as you said you MUST fulfill the health and wealth conditions.

I hope that clears up what I was (trying to say) saying..

Problem is "people read what they want to hear" - So like as to "avoiding misunderstandings" so people won't be thinking this is like the UK where the government doesn't know how many foreigners there are in the country... The Finnish system is totally opposite - based on knowlege of things...
