You expecting any offers off this lot? BTW not wanting to rain on your parade, but construction is finding its highest unemployment in years with estimated 65 000 unemployed union members this winter

To add some weight to Hank's words, and taking account of the differences in population sizes, that's equivalent to over 3 quarters of a million unemployed construction workers in the UK.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

And there ain't a prison in Tampere anyways - besides which you need to take some training so to pass the entrance you need to be able to read the book, write the answers and an essay so a career in the service of the republic "ain't happening".

yeah DJ/music industry is probably your best shot. I'm living in Tampere and it does have a big music community, there are also many many events happening during the summer that are oppertunities for work. There's plenty of bars and nightclubs too. BUT, i'll say this, and most people will agree. You're moving here at a tough time, recession and also going into the winter when everyone goes into hibernation....
My advice would be to use the winter time to start building up contacts (basically spending alot of time in the right bars). I would also suggest this and it will only be a matter of time before someone else chimes in and says it. YOU HAVE TO LEARN FINNISH!!! there is no way around this.
The good thing is that there are several language courses that start in the winter time in Tampere.
Where in Tampere are you moving to?

I'd guess that if one wants to work as a prison guard then one must have proper education, as in: http://www.rskk.fi/inenglish/Pursuivant wrote:Which is irrelevant.

To the OP.... Please let us know how everything works out for you. I enjoy hearing of others experiences when moving to Finland. When are you planning to move? Unfortunately, I don't really have any useful advice to give because I'm not in Finland. But I wish you the best of luck!
