Prepaid PAYG cards

Post by irnbru » Sat Aug 08, 2009 1:31 pm

So I'm in the market for a prepaid sim card.

I thought I'd go with dna for no good reason (If you know a better one please let me know. I mostly need to send texts many of them are international).

But whats the difference between DNA Arvo and DNA prepaid?

Apparently DNA Arvo has a contract but it doesn't specify what that means.

DNA Arvo seems to have cheaper rates.

Hi!
The main difference between the two DNA prepaid subscriptions is price per minute.
DNA Prepaid is terribly expensive - the airtime price is 16, 0 c /minute as DNA Arvo costs 6,9 c /minute.
You can use DNA Arvo abroad, but actually that will be terribly expensive.
DNA Prepaid package is operational as you buy it, but I have understood that Arvo requires registration and is operational after 24 h. (That's the "contract", and you can also move another contracted - non prepaid - subscription number from other operators to Arvo - that's take more time).
DNA Arvo starter package costs 10 e and contains 10 e worth of airtime, and DNA Prepaid costs 17 e and includes 10 e worth of airtime. (DNA Prepaid started package is on special at R-Kioski at the moment and costs 7.90)

Other operators have prepaid packages, that are competitive with DNA Arvo, e.g.

Saunalahti Prepaid costs 6,6 c /minute. The starter package costs normally 6,70 e and includes 6 e airtime. (Saunalahti Prepaid
You have to add more airtime within 3 months to keep it operational, and after that within 12 months.

TeleFinland Helppo is a prepaid subscription that costs 9 e as a stater package which includes 11 e airtime. The airtime costs 6,9 c /minute.
With Helppo the minimun airtime usage is 2,90 e /month - if you use less, they'll always charge you the minimum usage every month.
(TeleFinland Helppo starter package is on special t R-Kioski at the moment and costs 7.90).

Hope this helps...

Just noticed that the Saunalahti R-kioski special dropped out:

Saunalahti Prepaid is on special at R-Kioski now and costs 4.90.

- The schools are starting and therefore all prepaid subscription operators have special offerings.

Thanks Keravalainen. Looks like Saunalahti per minute rate is cheaper so maybe I will opt for that. I guess I can text to abroad with that?

Also I take it Saunalahti prepaid doesn't require any contract stuff?

Yes, Saunalahti is a good choice - especially with the current special price. No contract needed - just buy the start-up package at R-kioski, and stick the SIM-card in your phone. Sending SMS (text messages) costs the same regardless if you send them to Finland or abroad. (Saunalahti is a part of Elisa, so they are using the Elisa mobile network, which has a very good coverage.)
- - You need to add airtime when the one included in the start-up package ends, or within 3 months. After that you have 12 months to next fill-up - or until you have used your prepaid airtime completely.

Hei I'm also thinking about buying a Saunalahti prepaid card but I wonder how to refill the airtime without a Finnish bank account?? Is it possible?
Thanks a lot!

Hi! You can buy a top-up cards (min 10 e) at Elisa shop or at Prisma.
- At R-kioski you can charge there any amount between 10 and 100 e (with 5 c increments) just by telling your Saunalahti PrePaid mobile number to the attendant.
