That's true.

That's not a very good suggestion. Many books are printed in Europe, not so many in Peru one would think.

Amazon has UK and German based services which ship to Finland, though you will have to pay postage

Play.com also sells books, though not as wide a selection as Amazon, their prices include postage.

We almost always buy our travel books online, generally we save 60-70% of the cost of the books in from Akateeminen or Suomalainen.

I second play.com - I use them a lot.

new paperback in finnish bookshop, 12.99€ vs 3.99€ on play.com

The library has some english books also.

I would extend the concept: cheap and Finland don't go along very well :)

I use www.bookdepository.co.uk

Their rates also include postage and delivery is quick and efficient. I have used them for several years and never had any problems.

Bookplus do a decent job too, and you can choose not to pay for delivery and just pick up from their store.

I think it's the library in Sanomatalo (the building next to the Central Railway station).

Play for price and service
Amazon for stock
Book dep. is somewhere in between

Make sure you price check all of 'em though as the can prices vary a lot.

Always check ebay too!!

There is another from Jersey too. It's cheaper than Play (or was) but has quite limited stock. Anyone know the name?

Actually with Amazon I check at least three of their different incarnations, .com, .co.uk, .de
and especially I look in the Used & New list, as some of the resellers have low shipping costs to Finland

Isn't it odd that in a country where the second industry is paper production, all paper products especially books and even the imported ones are so bl**dy expensive!

Anything "made in Finland" is more expensive in Finland than elsewhere. That is why Finns are so hostile because they get screwed and can't afford the lube.
