Haven't seen it done live myself but some time ago there was a guy demonstrating this on the telly. Seemed to be a very clean cut... have a look at
this. It doesn't
seem difficult, I suppose you just need to know where exactly to strike and how, and have the confidence. (And the sabre.)
Thanks for that link.
The actors fit their roles quite well -- especially the guy with the sword.
I would have guessed completely the wrong technique if I hadn't seen this.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Me too. I thought (somewhat naïvely) that one would simply put the bottle on the table and then slash at it as quick as you can... in a 90 degree angle...

Hello,
I did buy some time ago the item in photo:

somewhere in Espoo, in one of the shops above mentioned (likely Prisma or Clas Ohlson).
I'm sorry that I cannot help more with details on place or price but... for once there is no need to get on ebay

The one like your pic costs 2,20 (Chez Marius on the corner of Bulevardi and Fredrikinkatu)
They also have a stubbier one (shorter nozzle) also with the cork stopper for 2,50
both are intended for oil bottles (I think the cork would be too small for a wine bottle)
They also have several like this with plastic stoppers, in different sizes and prices but generally in the 2-4e range:
I'll be back thereabouts on Monday, so PM me if you want me to mail you some.

Ah yes that's the shop. Judging by the stuff on display behind their windows, they have more or less every gizmo one ever might need in the kitchen, and then some - from silver-coated snail trays on wheels to electrically operated parsnip rotators.

Thanks Pen, that's a very kind offer and so much for checking the prices. Have one more place to check

Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Yep, that's the place. I bought a jam funnel. Ze gismo for filling very hot jam jars with jam at temperatures approaching those of volcanic lava, without burning your fingers. Only 6e, a life-enhancing moment.
It's one of those places where you have no idea what half the stuff is for, but daren't ask.
They also sell chocolate, so I don't need an excuse to go in there, frequently.
