dress ruined by SOL
dress ruined by SOL
So, new dress, bought about 1.5months ago - worn once.
Took to Sol, came back and its full of holes.
They are saying "you made the holes, they were there when you brought it in"
or
"the material is too thin and should not be washed"
So far we are out 300€ for the dress, 50€ for the cleaning, and 2 trips to the dry cleaner.
Manufacturer (Your Face, reputable) says they have seen no issues with this dress.
Next step is for Your face to send the dress of for analysis.
What are our rights?
I believe SOL washed it too harshly, but of course we have no proof of this.
I got the manager to write how it had been washed, so we have something in writing.
Any ideas what next?

Re: dress ruined by SOL
I looked through that. Seems they have to prove that they did not do things wrong.
Currently they are stating they washed it properly. In stating this they are delivering their service. I guess we need to demand proof that they did the service correctly.
I am thinking next step is.
Go to shop and state it was washed as instructions (we have the letter from SOL) and state that the dress is not fit for the purpose it was sold and ask for a replacement/refund.
As this is Finland, I am guessing I am dreaming if anyone gives a cr@p as we are only a paying customer.

Did you actually report this to L-Fashion Group Oy headoffice in Lahti or just to your local store?

What does the care label look like?
Was it dry cleaned or washed? What is the fabric (silk?)
Whereabouts are all the holes? Could they be from hairspray or perfume that might've reacted with the drycleaning chemicals?
You could try asking the consumer ombudsman for advice.
If the dress was full of holes when you took it in to be cleaned, the assistant would have made a note of that. They usually look over items for stains and holes etc specifically so they don't get blamed for it. If the assistant made no note of any abnormalities on the item, then that should be sufficient to prove that the dress was perfectly OK when you left it there.
You could try taking the dress (full of holes) into another SOL and ask them to clean it. Just to see what they say/do

nice suggestions by Penny!!
Have you taken any pcis with that dress which indicates no holes upto that date ?
Might have a good chance with the ombudsmann!!

But I still can't get past the irony of having a dry cleaner's named SOL in the first place. In the US, people would laugh driving by it.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Local for now, lets see what happens
What does the care label look like?
Dry clean only
Was it dry cleaned or washed? What is the fabric (silk?)
Dry cleaned (gentle) and material is Silk
Whereabouts are all the holes? Could they be from hairspray or perfume that might've reacted with the drycleaning chemicals?
all over in patches, front, back low down, high up.....maybe, but unlikely

I don't think you will get very far with your local retailer. They are probably a franchise which means they have little or no financial incentive to solve this for you. And besides, they probably don't think it is their fault, they are merely resellers, there is not a lot they can do to help. If I were you I would refer the matter directly to L-Fashion HQ and ask them for a written statement clarifying that the damage must be the result of incorrect cleaning by SOL. Then go back to SOL.cressers wrote:Local for now, lets see what happenspenelope wrote:Did you actually report this to L-Fashion Group Oy headoffice in Lahti or just to your local store?

Does the dress have sequins or beads on it?
Re: dress ruined by SOL
Thanks, the dress has gone to the HQ for "analysis". So we await the results.
Was just a plain silk dress, with inner lining. There should be nothing complex in it. As it had only been worn for 4hrs since new, we are pretty confident that this is the fault of SOL.

Re: dress ruined by SOL
A few years ago my finnish SIL had a similar issue with SOL - they ruined a party suit she was planning to wear to a big event. She was forced to buy a new fancy outfit last minute, which caused all sorts of headache. Being a very persistant person she took her complaint to some SOL upper managment after getting a similar "S.O.L." reaction from the branch she went to. I can't recall if she did this via phone or letters, but using internet/phone books, etc. got the right names and numbers. You could try similar if the other stuff doesn't work out, at the very least to inform of their utter cleaning incompetence.
*sadly, I don't remember how it all turned out, but she did get the personal satisfaction of ripping the management a new one
