I know it's early but ... any tips on Lapland during Xmas?
We've been in Finland for 5 years now and haven't gone further north than Oulu. with the kids being 6 it might be a great adventure to go and see Santa for Christmas. We'd like to do the tourist stuff. See Santa, husky safari and so on.
Any tips? We live in Helsinki. I don't know if it's better to fly or take a train (cheaper by train I guess). Any particular hotel you recommend?

In rovaniemi they have tourist trap with santa and all other stuff http://www.santapark.com/ (whoever made those pages should be hanged, mutilated, shot in face and then stomped in swampeye)
In levi you probably also find all kind of tourist attractions http://www.levi.fi/
To rovaniemi its easy to take night train, to levi its maybe easier to fly.

Oh my that Santa park website is awful
I checked the price for flights to Rovaniemi during Christmas and it's really expensive. As much as I'd like to do one Christmas in Lapland in my lifetime I'd rather go abroad than spending 2000€ just on flights! I guess I should check the trains...

I certainly don't think it is too early...
...maybe too late. It gets booked up very quickly for Christmas.
I tried booking a few years ago, it was very expensive and I didn't find the tourist office very helpful. So I gave up.

It seems like most hotels are full already...
It is indeed quite complicated!

In America, that could be known as a *Theme Park*, which everybody knows is not real.
So, apparently Rovaniemi is able to make money. They *sell* Santa Claus.
However, I otherwise agree with your thoughts.
Trash!

Check the train prices..Amandine.K wrote:It seems like most hotels are full already...It is indeed quite complicated!
and if you have a car..the car on the train..prices too.
Then dont check hotels but resorts..
semi-private lodges..and cottages and this depends on where you are going to.
