If he says he has everything, ask if there is somewhere he would like to go, or something he would like to do, rather than something he would like to have. He might surprise you. A friend did that with his kids. The boy wanted to go on a submarine and the girl wanted to drive a go kart. Both made a nice outing for all the family.

What about the following ideas:
- golf lessons (just the right age to start)
- good quality radio controlled car or boat
- sailing lessons, they can learn in some clubs on Optimists
- football/ hockey goal for the garden/ cottage
- football or hockey real game shirt
- swingball (or whatever it is called here)
- lawn darts (from Amazon.co.uk), something you do not see in Finland
- cricket set from UK, something you do not see in Finland
- models from Games Workshop (slightly older age range than toys), to calm him down after his sport
- man's shower gel etc... to make him feel older
- fishing rod set
- trip with friends to paintball
- trip with you to go bowling, play billiards
- darts board
- sports watch
- Wii Fit
when a bit older, any gadget will do... remote control for TV, knife, screwdrivers, just visit Clas Ohlsen and buy anything manly

Recently I have bought similar stuff for my youngest:

Sports bag and Sport shampoo, shower gel etc towel
Nintendo DS (helps in long car journeys)
A make-your-own volcano set from the Heureka shop
Fishing stuff
Cinema e-tickets
Skateboard shoes
Knife (for the mökki)
Headphones (for iPOD)
Beach volley ball

...but usually he gets cash as he is quite a good little saver (unlike the other two )

Heh... great minds and thinking alike... I was going to suggest a huge heaping pile of different type of (recycled) lumber, boards, nails (can never have too much of nails!), hinges, and whatever one might need to build whatever pops into one's mind.

Or at least I loved to build stuff out of old planks when I was about 10 (and take it apart, straighten the nails, and build something else...), and my plan for this summer is to build "something" with my 6yo daughter.

I would recommend an "adventure kit" such as a Paintball game with his friends, karts, rappelling, canoing, etc. This kind of stuff is exciting and satisfies the spirit of adventure young boys typically have.

Why not buy him something related to the sport he is keen on. For example if he likes watching Formula 1, you can purchase some kids racing suit.
Just think of what you can relate to the things he like. From the other side you can buy something that he can really use and make it a bit personal like some photo cushions he might use for his bedroom.

Why not get him a Nintendo Wii system with Wii Sports. In fact, it's something the whole family can having fun doing together.
