soccer for a 5 year old

Post by Leenboon » Thu Aug 20, 2009 11:39 am

Hi all,
We just moved to the Tikkurrilla area which is North of Helsinki and close to Malmi. I have a 5 year old who loves playing soccer and is pretty good at it (if a mom can judge that!). The thing is that I can not find a team or organization where he can play in. Does somebody has any suggestions?
Thanks already!

You will have to decide whether you want him to sign his childhood over to "serious" football (and most of your time and money) or whether he just wants to kick a ball around after school.

Junior league soccer in Finland is expensive, time-consuming and SERIOUS. Regimental in some cases. Some boys thrive in those conditions, even if their parents don't.

You will eventually spend most of your weekends standing in the cold, drinking coffee out of a paper cup, selling raffle tickets and forking out vast sums of cash for kit, training, club fees, licence, insurance and more.

But it's fun. I've made some good friends at football and I have even learnt a bit about the game.

Be warned. Have fun. :D
