I had a 12-month cable TV agreement with Welho a few years ago. It was a special offer with the 1st 3 months @ ½ price.

I cancelled it after 10 months, with the cancellation fee being one-month's subscription.

I imagine that if you signed an 18-month agreement then you will indeed be liable to pay a fair amount for wanting to close it off after just 3 months.

You could just not pay it, but these thing have a way to bite you back in future. Beware. Your credit card rating might even be affected.

If I were you I'd pay what they say you owe.

A little off topic here, but,,
WELHO Broadband customers:
If they call you and ask if you're satisfied with their service, say YES.
Then, when they ask "On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you?" say "10"
I got my connection speed doubled free of charge for getting that right!

Thanks for keeping to the point with this :) We fully intend to sort it all out properly. I'm not trying to cause trouble or waste anyone's time, just asking for quick answers as to what Finns accept as proof of residency in another country. Anyhow, Welho are apparently checking our account and we'll see what happens. Like you said, credit scores can be affected and so we want to sort this out properly.

If you never registered as living here, how can you provide proof from the Magistrate's Office that you've left?

I suppose, legally speaking, Welho should not have agreed to provide you with a service.

Still, see what they want from you and just cut your loses unless it's outrageous. It's going to be more trouble than it's worth to get litigious.

Good luck!

Only if you have a number... see now why "foreigners" without a number are not... accepted?

Your first point was my initial question.
Your second point was also what I was questioning initially, in that they didn't require proof of residency but now they require proof of non-residency.
Your third point - well I was never planning to get all litigious, just wanting to sort it all out properly, hence my OP.

I was thinking if the ISP wanted to get litigious, not yourself. Sorry! Didn't make that clear.

Still. It seems they haven't really a leg to stand on the more I think about it.

Do keep us up to speed on developments. It's quite interesting!

Oh ok, sorry about that. :)
Is it really that interesting? I didn't think anyone would reply and just look at all the excitement and aill feeling i seem to have caused in this thread!

Anyway, my partner has spoken to Welho over the phone. Apparently they cancelled the contract when no payment was made, and he's just settled up with them over the missed payments - all sorted! Seems quite easy after all the fuss over proof etc but I guess they don't care as much now that they've disconnected the service. At least our credit will be ok now though. Thanks for all the useful and the entertaining posts!

Good to hear that the issue was sorted out properly for you  Here, I understand that there is no standard procedure followed by company staff. When I went to welho office one year ago, they asked me to pay 200e deposit money, because I didn't have the magic number. But they didn't ask it from your partner and from some other people exactly at the same situation with me. Also at the helsingin energia... they didn't accept my application on the phone, because of the same reason, but they did it for others.
