question: hardware for laptops

Post by joanmanuel » Wed Sep 02, 2009 5:47 pm

hello there:
I would like to know where I could find in Helsinki any store that sells peripherals for laptops, for example external hard disks, batteries of 12 cells, adapters, and all that stuff; I have gotten a HP, but I was wondering if I could use any other generic brand, any suggestion?

I have bought external hard disks from Clas Ohlson, but be aware that they don't have a clue what they are selling. They are OK if you know what you are talking about but don't expect them to advise you. For instance I bought a LaCie NAS disk from there a couple of weeks ago and the assistant didn't even know what it was.
Is PC Superstore still in existence? I haven't been there lately but they used to have a reasonable selection of basic stuff and their staff had more of a clue.
Things like batteries tend to be brand-specific so you have to buy the batteries for your make of laptop. Other things like external disks are universal.

SmartIt seems to have HP stuff:

Oh, if smartit has it, another one is Beesting
http://www.beesting.fi

These two and several others are behind one single distributor, GNP.
You can notice it because in webshop they list amount of items in warehouse,
and strangely those numbers are the same... but their prices differ!

Impossible. Every cell is 1,2v and you cant just decrease amount of cells. Thats called physics and mathematics,

But, onkko is right, that a battery cell has a fixed amount of voltage, as a matter of the known physics of batteries.

Now, batteries eventually do wear out, so their individual cell voltages drop to zero, but that's not a *new* battery.
