Student Resident permit

Post by nsdh » Mon Sep 15, 2008 12:26 pm

Hi,

I have applied for students resident permit in Vantaa they told me that they will transfer it to Helsinki as i mentioned my contact address is in Helsinki, people are telling it will take more time in Helsinki police station? Is that true? I need to get it as soon as possible atleast within 1 month. what should i do?

How much will it generally take? I told them Helsinki address is not my permanent address and i applied to HOAS, but they havent understand it. Why do they need address if the documents are correct? I have given my passport to them, i cannot travel outside too.

its you who needs to understand where to apply...not them..as its YOU who needs the permit..Not them!!
Even if you have a temp. address!!, where you reside in the "system" is your domicile unless you change it!!

let's not forget, international students are only temporary visitors in police's eyes. Hence, wherever you are registered, is your domicile. However, I know some students have got their RP renewed/extended to the local police station where their school is.

What I mean is: Those students who are away from their schools on summer and staying in Helsinki have gone back to renew their RP at the police station where their school is located knowing that paperwork takes much longer time in Helsinki. Wise move, I would say.

I got it in some 40days, I have given speedup later and followed my letter from Police station to Imigration office. I have talked to officers and explained my situation then it made easy. I was worried when they first told that will take 6 months.
