Well congratulations. Not much there except battling with KELA for the decision. And you don't have a visa but a residence permit, and its valid as long as its been given for. As for the citizenship of the child, Finland has the system the child gets automatically the citizenship of the mother.

Ah, renewal might be a bit tricky. But in principle you cannot make redundant a pregnant woman if they have a valid work contract because shes pregnant - they of course can find some other excuses.

Re: my wife got pregnant
Congratulation on your hard work : your wife can get support from KELA since she is been working. when she goes to her first visit to maternity clinic she can discuss about the social benefit with the midwife too. its important that she keeps her pay slips since they might ask them in KELA.

thanks a lot for the information and suggestions..anyone can give more advice are welcome..i appreciate it.
Re: my wife got pregnant
If the Kela decision has taken long time waiting, maybe you could ask them directly, indicating why you think the matter is bit urgent. For the residence permit related questions, you could send an email to Migri and inquire what is the policy in this kind of situations. As pointed by others, forget the citizenship. Your child will get the citizenship of you and your wife, the Finnish state will not donate another one (this is not U.S.A).
If your wife has been member of an union, she might get some useful legal advice from there regarding the continuation of her contract she can not be fired because of getting pregnant or giving birth, but getting the contract renewed is a much trickier problem....

me and my wife have same employer..and we working in a restaurant and i can say its a private company(dont have union)..our employer give us a yearly working contract..and we did not told yet that my wife shes pregnant..(6 weeks pregnant) we do like it or not she need to stop for work on her 8 months pregnancy..
Re: my wife got pregnant
I am not sure if I understand what you mean. Women usually work 8 months out of their 9 months long pregnancy. Thay start maternity leave one month before birth.we do like it or not she need to stop for work on her 8 months pregnancy..
Re: my wife got pregnant
Maternity allowance period starts 5-8 weeks before due date. (http://www.kela.fi/in/internet/english. ... enDocument - assuming here that Kela will consider her now entitled to Finnish social security) Your wife's contract will last do it's original date (so some 4 months after the birth of the child). Employer of course generally has no obligation to renew a temporary contract, but if directly hires somebody else to do the same job then that could be considered illegal discrimination against your wife.
For residence permit questions in the case your wife is not able to keep her job I still recommend you to contact Migri.

Which has nothing to do with the fact that:triple j wrote:and we working in a restaurant and i can say its a private company(dont have union)..our employer give us a yearly working contract.
a) work contract law and union rules apply regardless of having a local chapter or you belonging to an union. all workers are equal so you cannot pay someone a lower salary or have different rules just because they are not in an union
b) you can join the restaurant workers union at any time, you just need to pay your own contribution if you don't want your employer to dock it
c) you should at least join an unemployment fund as otherwise you don't get any dole if you get unemployed
