Another washing machine question

Damn! My washing machine has been broken

I know that there have been lots of threads about washing machines recently, but what do you think? Should I try to get it fixed or buy a new cheap one?

It is a 4 years old UPO (edit: front loader). It seems like only its "brain" is a little bit confused. When I press the start button, it takes water in and nothing happens afterward. When I select drainage program, the pump works ok and drains the water out while the drum spins slowly... I will use the washing machine less than two years.

Well if you have a kotivakuutus they will cover the charge the repair guys do for the assessment... for 4 years old machine they might also pay something...

Have you cleaned out the filters recently? There should be an accessible filter (somewhere? maybe at the bottom or back of the machine) which you need to open up and rinse out. You will find plently of yuck/hair/Lego/small stones/twigs/more yuck/string etc. If this is partially blocked there is a cut-out mechanism in the machine that prevents the normal cycle from continuing.

Also, check the manual for more troubleshooting tips.

The machine shouldn't break down after only four years (unless you have been using it really heavily).

Yeah, I have kotivakuutus but I couldn't see anything about repairing broken washing machines. It says the insurance covers unforeseeable leakage from washing machine, etc.

I also checked the filter thing. It doesn't look like a filter though... Only a one-centimeter-wide hole closed with a screw cap. And It was clean, no yucky thing at all... It reminded me to check the drainage hose, maybe that one is clogged...

I'm not an expert but I read somewhere that some washing machines
have some kind of load and unbalancement sensor, that avoids the drum to
spin if there is the risk that the machine can start dancing around the floor.

Maybe in your case you have an "hypersensitive" (=broken) sensor.

Quite a few of us have a brain which is a little confused, are you sure it is not a foreign brand which is suffering culture shock!

I think UPO is a domestic product or at least Scandinavian... Alcoholism and depression would be the problem

I checked everything possible... Nothing seems clogged and I don't think this machine is clever enough to have a unbalancement sensor. What I realized lastly is after taking water, some water is coming out of drainage hose, normally it shouldn't be. Most likely that a valve on the drainage system is out of order

Today I called a Kodinkonehuolto and they said the repair would cost 100-150e! I'm definitely buying a new one. Do you know any place which sells new machines and takes the old one away???

You need to go around the stores (On-off, Gigantti, etc etc etc Hobby Hall is good too, espcially if you want to pay in installments) and look for special offers (try reading all the trash that gets dumped in your mailbox too). You might even be able to find a display model that they will do you a discount on.

If I remember correctly the store MUST take your old one away if you ask them to. Not sure if they charge for it though.

Surprised your machine has died after only 4 years, especially if it is a low-end (ie bog-standard unsophisticated) model as not too much can go wrong. Anyway, charging so much to fix a machine (even without knowing the problem) is CRIMINAL. Forcing people to buy new, buy new, buy more new, all the time

Yeah, one needs to find the RIGHT repairman with purer motivations.

Note: that's not posted on my own Youtube account and given the account owner's self-reported history, I don't know how long the clip will be there. But this is for sure the repairman I immediately thought of when you mentioned how repair requests are typically handled today.

We had a hot water heater installed once by the one of the giants and pioneers of American catalog and department store retailing, Sears. Then we went out to dinner. When we came home, you could smell gas all the way out to the street. We called the gas company and the guy who came said that if we had been away a few more hours there would have been nothing but an empty foundation at our address.

The "assessment" (methinks right English massa?) is 95 euros the bloke from repairshop comes do. Company ask - insurance pay.
Then again 4 years talk with company the house insurance is there to pay for this...

its not just u that get these moments..
it is the moments...
insurance Cos also have deductibles n if you dont call them...u get jack sh*it..

Tell me this I'm in the market for a "new" vcar my nettiauto search is "made before 1987"... I want a mechanical car and no electrics

have you moved the drain hose recently? there's not actually a valve in the way from the drum to outside, the drain pipe should go up high enough so that the water won't drain out during normal use and only when the pump runs will the water drain out. With my new machine the pipe must do this internally since it doesn't need the pipe high up, but the old machine had the drain pipe coming out of the machine low down and in the instructions you had to loop it high enough somewhere between the machine and the drain.
it might also be a blocked or faulty sensor or wire to the sensor- since the machine must know when there is enough water in the drum to stop letting in more. if you open the machine and find these you might find them blocked or a wire loose (perhaps from the drum spinning the wire has fractured or come loose from the sensor).
