Laptop problem

Post by richard berman » Fri Sep 18, 2009 4:32 pm

Hello everyone,

Ok my laptop and monitor have been working fine for the last few months, all I have done is plugged the monitor into the laptop and it was fine. But now all I am getting on the monitor when I plug it into the laptop is the background display of my desk top no icons , and that is all I get, can anyone help me. I have just moved onto Vista and to sort this out on Xp was very easy.

Many thanks

Richard

Is the laptop open with the it's display visible?

If so right click on the desktop and select properties and check if it has connected the external monitor as an extra screen.

two options are available when you plug a monitor for a laptop:

- Using it as second monitor which displays the same view than the one of the laptop. Good when making presentations or just wanting to use the added monitor only. For this you need only to activate it.
- using it as a extented monitor : You then have an empty desktop, but you can move the windows you wish there (ctrl + space or manually ) and use both monitors. By this u need to check the box "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" in Display properties -> settings.

Cheers!
