Does anyone know about a job in Åland?
Hi!, could anyone help me find a job in Åland, please?. I am an English/Spanish translator/interpreter and/or teacher, but I could also work at a store, at a restaurant, or performing some other tasks.
Jag kan lite svenska, och jag verkligen vill lära mig mera.
Jag älskar Finland (och finska folk) och jag älskar svenska språket, so I think that the best way to combine both is in Åland.
I will really appreciate if someone helps me. Thank you very much.

I would not count Ålanders as Finska folket, they are not. I am not even sure if they are Swedes. They are Ålanders. Sorry, no ideas of a job. You could also search something around Vasa/Gamlakarleby/Kristinestad (Vaasa/Kokkola/Kristiinankaupunki).

As Åland is part of Finland you can use the Finnish job searchy site thing, Mol, there are jobs in Åland advertised there.
http://www.mol.fi/etusivu/index.html
But you can check all the Swedish speaking areas too from the site.

There is usually a way for at least one or two sufficiently determined persons to penetrate almost any culture.
But I hope you recognize the challenge you're facing in trying to break into and be accepted in such a small and insular culture that has so long and successfully resisted assimilation by a variety of larger neighbors. Yes, the language is probably easier for you than Finnish. But I'd think that all the other things that make it hard to break into small Finnish communities would apply doubly or triply or who knows, maybe even tenfold to Åland. The tradition is for the opposite to take place: individuals from places like Åland moving into some other culture.
I like Bubba's idea of considering Swedish-speaking areas of Finland.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

I agree with what the oher guys have said.
Look at this paragraph from Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Åland ):
Look at this paragraph from Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Åland ):
To me it sounds like: leave Åland to ÅlandersIn connection with Finland's admission to the European Union, a protocol was signed concerning the Åland Islands that stipulates, among other things, that provisions of the European Community Treaty shall not force a change of the existing restrictions for foreigners (i.e., persons who do not enjoy "home region rights" (hembygdsrätt) in Åland) to acquire and hold real property or to provide certain services, implying a recognition of a separate nationality.

Of course they are - they know you're there only for a visit

...but to be honest, I think they use machines for peeling the spuds. The vacancies section was empty.

Have to agree with Pursuviant here. These types of places tend to run on tourism and love you as long as you are spending your money, and leaving. Used to enjoy skiing cross country in Sud Tyrol, and thought of getting a job there, wow, did their attitude change when I went from welcome form of revenue to potential immigrant into their perfect little world. (even though I'd have been paying tax). I imagine Aland as similar.
