Post by brengun » Sat Oct 03, 2009 10:18 am

I cant hope to find anything as fabulous as talk talk in the uk.. where I get a phone line ,adequate internet service, and free calls to uk and europe ,,all for 24 pounds per month.. but where can one find a simple similar package in Finland,, and yes it seems that the news of free market economics has not penetrated these parts,,yet, but we must hope these finns will wake up.

And you moved here why? Sounds like you would be happier in a country with cheaper phone packages.

I thought reportedly we were having the cheapest phone calls in the whole EU... ah thats mobile. But you want a land-line service with VOIP apparently.

You ignorant cretin.

Finland has advanced to the point that landline telephones are pretty much redundant for most people. I know a couple of people who still have them, but they're all 60+. Finland also has had some of the lowest mobile phone costs in Europe. But then a bright spark like yourself would know all this.

Suggest that if you're trying to get help from this forum, you should first try to improve your social skills.

Not in the slightest deluded.

If you live in Finland, there are plenty of aspects to slag off. But to get hot under the collar because there aren't many discounted landline "talk talk" just shows that you don't know much about the place. Landlines are old news in Finland, replaced by mobile communications. Try and compare mobile phone costs between the UK and Finland, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

such a pity this forum is skewed by the redneck brigade, , one asks a simple question about landline/ internet packages just to find oneself deluged by this pathetic nationalism, the question relates to those who need landlines ,for in stance to receive calls from overseas. , you do know there,s a big world out there, and i,m sure you will be pleasantly surprised ,should you ever go, ,over and out, practical ,informed replies, pleeeease.

Why does it need to be a landline to recieve international calls? VOIPs work on mobiles these days.

But you didn't ask a "simple question", did you now? This look simple?

For someone asking for advice from the locals, you f*/+ it up in your opening line. Talk about "How to make friends and influence people"

You're correct that the Finnish "market economy" isn't quite as competitive as the UK's, but you again slip on the ice by criticising one of the few things that are actually good in Finland, namely "phones":

And this is a gem to finish with, you must be a real thunderball at parties :D

Out of morbid interest, why did you come to Finland, and how long have you been here?

'''''''''',,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes one can get international connection on voip , but ,on a technical point don,t you need the computer permanently on, and need to be sitting by it to receive calls, unlike the conventional landline?, would appreciate any help on this, thanks. m

Only if you insist on using proprietary VoIP protocols controlled by a single company, such as Skype. For instance, there are many stand-alone VoIP phones (including wireless DECT handsets) for standards-based SIP VoIP. These connect to your broadband router and do not require a PC to work.
