In a language school? Possible but pretty damn hard....catherina wrote:Is it possible for me as a foreigner to teach French ? for example in language school and if not being french myself
For beginners usually a Finn is used so they can mix a bit of Finnish and a bit of the target language (in your case French). As the students progress a native speaker of the language is used.
Of course...If your mother tongue is French then that's different....as long as you don't have some crazy accent.
It would also depend on how much demand there is for French and how many native French speaking teachers are available. French is not a big priority here, there is a demand but very small.
You'd probably have to work in a few language schools to get enough hours together. Or work purely freelance and set up your own company.
But you could get lucky...or be soooo good, with amazing papers and experience that it would swing it...The only way to find out is to contact language schools and ask. Now is a very bad time due to the economic issues.
Give it a pop...Just don't expect too many positive answers or answers at all...

You could also try posting your question on www.salutfinlande.net
There are several French teachers on there who would have a good idea of the market at the moment.
The ones I know are pretty busy but they are all native French speakers.
As Bubba mentions, you will almost certainly have to work freelance, I doubt if any language schools have full-time French teachers on their staff, the demand is not that large.

Do finns prefer to study english ?

Re: Teaching
English is the most popular foreign language but it is not enough, people have to learn more than one foreign language. I think most popular 2nd foreign languages are German and French. Spanish is rising.

Of course...It's important globally for business etc.catherina wrote:Do finns prefer to study english ?
German, French and Spanish are also popular in public schools but not growing much in the private language schools. The market for Russian is growing and their has been a very slight growth in Chinese. Swedish fluctuates. All this varies from school to school. In the language schools it depends on the clients...so if the client has a lot of business with a company that deals with the French a lot, then obviously there will be a demand for French.
But usually it's all about English...
A recent report showed that it's no longer important to speak numerous languages in Finland...but your English just has to be of a very high level.

Re: Teaching
Teaching jobs usually (not always) require some sort of certificates. The more official you get the more papers you need.
