Tyres for Katsastus

Post by bm50 » Thu Oct 29, 2009 11:51 am

I'm taking my car for the Katsastus on Monday but do I need to change to winter tyres now or can I leave the summer tyres on?Will they accept summer tyres for the test?

1. December it is obligatory to have winter tyres in traffic, not obligatory for inspection, in fact you can transfer your car by driving to the inspection with summer tyres, if they are legal and the distance is not too long... how smart that is... winter tyres with no studs and over 1,6mm but under 3,0mm thread are legal summer tyres, which you can use to transfer your car to the inspection (unless the distance is excessive, so no driving from Oulu to Helsinki for inspection... unless it is re-inspection for a fault noticed in a first one, so it must be done in the same inspection station)... ain't laws fun? :]

BTW, talking about katsastus, is any katsastus-asema just fine, that is
it's ok to simply pick the closest one or the cheapest one, or
is there a special art in choosing the place where to go for the revision? :)

Well if you need to go to a rivisit you need to go to the same one that flunked you, so usually the closest/cheapest/ one with less assholes
