Helsinki For the next two weekends (and the week between them)
the Kallio neighbourhood will be even more exciting
than usual as the Kallio Kipinöi festival will take
over many local bars and cafes, little stores and
churches, even the Arla sauna. Music, theatre,
workshops, flea markets, random other events... and
free entry to most of the events!
A few picks:
- Saturday 21st: Finnish animated short films at the
comics centre Pitkämies at 10am.
- Sunday 22nd: Guitarist Timo Hatva improvising
flamenco at the Arla public sauna, 6pm.
- Tuesday 24th: Beer tasting and brewery tour, starting
at Pub Kuikka at 5pm.
- Saturday 28th: The main event at Kulttuuritalo,
daytime: flea market, live music, dance performances
from Cote d'Ivoire and Bali, Finnish folk songs and
poems etc from 12pm until 6pm; free entry
- Saturday 28th: the main event, evening: gala and a
lot of bands including Belle Who, Op:l Bastards, Pink
Twins etc etc; entry 6 euros

However it's worth checking out the pdf programme too, for the sublimely beautiful cover picture.

(Must be a photo that's been tweaked through some photoshop filter to make it look like a watercolour. Minus the logo, I'd have that on my wall anytime. It's from the Kallio church tower I presume?)
